Mk18 "Clone" -- Can a civilian build one?

I have a close approximation of the correct lower for the weapon. Though mine is marked M16A1.

I'd like to make the closest approzimation of the upper as I can.

Is the Mk18 a standard? Or is it constantly changing based on the person{s} who pieced it together?

Specifically, I would like to not overlook small nuances like the bolt and carrier, as well as springs, spring inserts, BUIS, etc......

I know the Captian of a destroyer in Norfolk (I shoot USPSA with him), he's seen some of the Mk18s and the ones he's handled are retrofitted M4s. They had LMT rear sights. He's not really into ARs so he didn't recognize what rails or optics or what ammo they were using in these.

Considering that you can buy LMT BUIS, uppers, KAC RAS etc... why not? I don't know what the BCG is, but I would hope it is Colt.

The MK18's I have seen were LMT's. We all know how much you like those Ed!

    I would contact Dport.

I think the ship he is the XO of has a few MK18's in inventory.

Procuring the parts is probably the easy part.

Making the actual picklist is the hard part.

Anyone got a parts inventory for the build???

Using standard LMT M16 bolt and carrier?

What springs in the extractor? Just use the Crane Kit?

LMT Upper with LMT factory 10.3" 1:7 barrel?

    F marked front sight?

    Rear BUIS?

    Optic?

    Optic mount?

    Rail?

    Receiver extension?

    Stock?

    Buffer spring?

    Buffer weight?

    Grip?

I work from time to time with the Naval center for antiterrorism and they use MK18's

From what I know the Bolt is Colt, the barrels are 14.5 SOCOM barrels and cut back to 10.3 (why they do this is beond me!) wilcox aimpoint mount.

S-1 over on ARFcom is a MK18 user, he might be able to give you first hand details.

[s]LMT is advertising on their website[/s] that their 10.3" upper is the Mk18 upper now. I have one on order.

Edit: my mistake - I saw that on Bravo Company's website ..

Isn't it because it's ~10.5" to the M203 stepdown, and that's structually the best place to mill off an M4 BBL to make it shorter??? Not to mention, the armorers have plenty of'em in stock to retrofit as the shorter MK18's...
