This isn't a "if I ran KAC, I would do it differently" thread.

I hope I wasn't the person who inspired that quote.
Magic, that wasn't directed at you. Moreso a comment on the general direction of the thread and the various comments / complaints about existing good products, i.e. the front sight. There are definitely configurations that don't work with the integrated front sight, but that isn't reason enough to say its junk, as some have implied here, and demand that it be removed.

It would be a nice option to have a URX rail similar to the URX I, but with the integrated swivel pockets like the URX II for builds that require it. To my knowledge the URX I wasn't produced in large numbers though and eventually evolved into the URX II as part of the IWS concept that was first debuted with the SR15 E3 IWS approx. 2 years before it became an actual commercial offering.

There have been lots of "they should do this or that" comments that are derailing the original topic. KAC has a good track record of providing what their customers are looking for over the last couple of years. III's comment about a new URX offering in the OP is a good example of market demand driving product offerings. However, I think we take it a little too far sometimes in the demands we make of manufacturers and we take their openness / accessibility as a liscence to critique every detail. Personally, I would like to see this thread develop as AC intended; a way to keep up with actual product developments and enhancements coming from KAC. Every day there seems to be a new SR15 thread and good information gets watered down in all the chatter.

I'm just surprised that something as innocuous as a front site has generated this much discussion. If people really don't like it that much, there are other good options available. IMHO, the integrated front site is what makes the URX II unique and for many, a desirable product. It saves weight and with the new URX pricing, it saves money too.

    That would be bomb ass.
I meant to respond to this earlier. I think the fixed front sight was originally developed for the SR25 and replaced by the SR25 rail as seen on the MK11 & M110.

The gas system on the SR15, while not standard in the industry, is standard in KAC which is how it was selected. If they were to start monkeying around with other lengths they'd have to make new tubes.

Tubes are an inconsequential cost. The expensive part is the testing to confirm that you have proper port sizing, etc.

True, and if we know anything about Knight's at all, it is that they have a wonderfully over-the-top approach to product testing.

Nonetheless, as it was explained to me by III when I was writing my article on the E3, the decision was made on gas tube length because it was already a standard part for them.

That is an interesting little know fact right there. Thanks Rob.

    Then buy something else.

I don't like the round hood front sight of the URX either. It should have outward ears like a regular AR-15 front sight or a Troy M4 front BUIS.

Round hooded front sights with an adjustable post are a fundamenatlly flawed system.

It obsurces too much of the target and forces the eye to center the hood with the rear aperature, not the post, which is incorrect.

Do you think the URX III has the potential to be a better rail system than the VLTOR, or Troy offerings?

I think I found an article on the military contract III mentioned.

The Improved Carbine Competition... or something.

''All of the major players are expected to compete. A few of the notable submissions include:

    • The XCR by Robinson Armament Co.

    • The M6A4 IAR, or similar variant, from LWRC.

    • The Adaptive Combat Rifle by Remington.

    • The SR-16 by Knight Armament Co.

    • The SCAR by FNH.''

I lost the link, I copied and pasted a post I made in the Colt CM901 thread in the ''Beyond 5.56'' sub-forum.
