Another vote here for ditching the goofy beavertail... it isn't needed, nor provided, on the Compact models and it isn't needed on the full size either (but it is provided).
+1 for the beavertail removal. This is something I need to get around to.
I'm thinking about adding to mine and I wish my 9c had the tail.
I get cut from M&P's with the tail removed.

I personally like the beavertail. It allows me to get as high a grip as possible in a hurry with a little bit of a "guard" to keep me from accidentally shoving the web of my hand up in the path of the slide. It helps me find a consistant grip every time much like a handstop on a carbine.
