T&E rifles are a crapshoot. Depending on who you are and the vendor you're dealing with, you may get a cherry-picked sample, a pull from standard production, or the beater that just got back from somewhere else. Caveat emptor.

One of the more interesting ones I got was a nicely done carbine from a lower end producer. Nice, right down to the Colt bolt.

Please, write up what they send you and post it here in a new thread.

I will be glad too. So far all the rifles I have received have been new, factory sealed and shipped directly from the factory to me. I will not accept anything less for T&E. So far Colt, LMT, STAG and S&W have cooperated with these requirements.

I'm going to expose my ignorance, again.

What is the big deal with the grip screw? Any specific reason to ditch a hex head?

Some people don't have a long enough allen wrench...............so the chicks don't dig them.

Dport- A slotted screwdriver can be found worldwide, or easily improvised. It just simplifies support items.

Yes, thats a fact, but why was it under the "required" list of items to change? It seems to me it is more of a preference/ease of maintenance thing?

Ease of maintenance. Eliminates one tool that the instructor/armorer/user has to have if a problem arises.

Thanks gents. I always thought a hex-head made installation and removal easier. Of course, easier is subjective and not necessarily a good thing.

I replaced mine a long time ago. Not only was it a pain in the butt to find a hex-head long enough, but when I needed it I usually miss placed it somewhere (most of the time under my nose).

The hex head grip screw never bothered me. I have a screw driver kit in my range bag and in my vehicles and I blue loc-tite grip screws anyway. I find it easier than the flat-head screw for re-installs.
NOT in training for combat deployment.
