Well, you're gonna HAVE to say more than that, Mysterio, or keep your typing fingers to yourself, since one of my guns and those of 4 friends of mine are using a setup very similar, and have been for the lase year-plus. SUCCESSFULLY. One to the tune of 4000+ rounds in that configuration. Mine's at 1200 or so, I was late to the experiment. No equipment-based malfunctions, dogs and cats didn't start living together in peace and harmony, the earth didn't tip off its axis.

Given the choice of coughing up for a longer rail or burning the dogshit out of your hand, it works, so long as one doesn't allow more than half the length of the panel to extend past the existing rail. Less is better, any more and it may likely bend or break the rail panel under use.

We've already established that SOME non-issue stuff'll end up okay. It's up to the OP to run it past his Tribal Elders.

Hey, gents, if one can't say anything beyond, "do this, don't do this," then you should probably keep your gob shut. Most of our members are married, and can no doubt get that needlessly smug, dictatorial BS at home.

dyegator, that's what I need to do. I'm comfortable with the thumb over grip, but when others shoot it they get all confused. You recommend the 6" scar pannels? I'm going to post a WTB in the EE and see if any one wants to part with some. thanks.

The dude asks for something simple and he gets a bunch of white noise. Most of the suggestions here aren't doable for a regular grunt.

The only rail upgrade that woukld likely escape the idiot CSM's scrutiny is a DD Omega. Another drop in rail, like the KAC, solves nothing. The Omega free floats the bbbl, and gets the weight of the accy's off of it.

Stick w. KAC rail covers, they draw no extra attention. Maybe get a few FDE ones.

A magnified optic would be a ggood bet, but you ahven't asked for an opinion on that.

    Good luck.

I appreciate all the relevant advice... I had not ever attempted to swap hand guard before. I didn't realize I was going to spark a such debate.

I am going to stick with the standard hand guard and augment with the AFG currently sitting in my tough box. I will definitely have to grab a a couple of those scar panels (thanks for the recommendation). I appreciate the concern about the CSM and standing out ... I think all will be well. As far as issued equipment, I have more choices than I could possibly use. Optics are covered with the SOPMOD block II load out, that being said I'm still going to take my tr24g because that is what I run in competition. Also taking my vtac padding sling, my moe stock, and pmags... why, because its what works for me.

This is probably a moot point, seeing as our unit just received a large number of 10'' piston uppers but I wanted to hedge my bets because I know there is not enough for everyone. I sincerely appreciate those of you that contributed...

That is a good call. The Elcan spectre's are really nice but quite heavy, and I have never been an Eotech fan. I run a T1 on mine with a 3x mag, but it is what I am used to and my command is awesome. Also, if you get the entire sopmod loadout, there are Tango Down rail panels in the kit, but they are the older, thicker, style.

Yeah, I spent a few weeks running the Elcan earlier this year. I was impressed, ...its much better than a lot of things that could have been purchased (although its a very pricey optic). However several guys had trouble getting it to holding a zero through lots of transitions between 1x and 4x. Only real gripe in that loadout is the streamlight weapon light, that thing is a pos.
