    Modular Handgun System

So this morning I was reading through the PEO Soldier 2011 portfolio, and I stumbled across an entry on page 243 that I knew nothing about, the Army seems to be putting together requirements for a new handgun to potentially replace the M9 in FY14 with a new modular pistol. I was aware of the dual path carbine program, but this was new to me.

This happens just about every year...rumor has it the army is looking for new weapon platforms to replace their existing ones.

Will they ever do that in the near future? Who knows...

Once they realize the trying to pack all that modularity into a compact-size dependent platform, that is very dependent on precise spring and slide mass for reliable operation, and must make up for the unstable shooting platform and user induced malfunctions of a pistol.......they may ditch the whole project in favor of a more traditional pistol pistol design.

    What is your bet?

    Taurus Judge?

It's pretty modular. It can be a pistol in .45LC, or a shotgun in .410.

I'm betting they'll drop the idea, as suggested by Entropy.

They'll drop the idea. Have you not seen the reports from the field on the P250?

Here's what they mean by "modular." The P250 probably won't even be considered.

The MHS requirement calls for a non-caliber specific weapon
with modular features to allow for the adaption of different
fire control devices, pistol grips, and alternate magazine
options. The weapon will fit various hand sizes and will
mount targeting enablers using MIL-STD-1913 rails. The
new weapon will incorporate detection avoidance by having
a non-reflective neutral color and will be operable with a
sound and flash suppression kit in place.
