    Explain these feed malfunctions.

Nose-diving and bolt-over head failures. Also, do these some how relate to round count? I hear of people who only load 29 rounds in the magazine, why I'm not sure.

A lot of people load 28 maximum in the magazine to ensure that the loaded magazine can be inserted with the bolt closed, as happens when you do a tactical magazine change.

Both of these are magazine related problems.
    What mags are they?
    How old?

Oh I'm sorry, I'm not having these issues myself, I'm just looking for why they happen, and a description of each.

Yep, that's what they all say. Let me clue you in, the first hurdle is admitting you have a problem. Friends don't let frind's suffer from bolt overrides and nosediving during the feeding cycle.

lol. No seriously, actually I got these terms from Magpul concerning their pmags. I'm just curious to a description of these failures as I've never seen them before. I run NHMTG mags and have no issues. However, I'm thinking of selling them for the pmags since everyone seems to think they're the shit.

Don't sell them, those are good mags and they are working fine. get a couple of PMAGs if you want.

No pics to show you, but a bolt override is where the cartridge doesn't present itself quickly enough and the bolt slides fwd over it. The cartridge can pop partially out of the mag and then the bolt just makes a big gouge/crease in the top of the cartridge. Sometimes it can get wedged up in the gas tube area and they can be a bear to get unstuck.

From what I understand you need to insert your fingers up through the magwell and put rearward pressure on the face of the bolt while at the same time trying to put fwd pressure on the CH to pop the cartridge free.

That jam I described really isn't an override, but I don't know if it's called an underride or what. In a typical override the bolt is above the cartridge, and the cartridge is pinned between the mag and the bolt. For that one you safe the weapon, slam the butt on the ground and pull back on the CH simultaneously. If you are running a collapsible stock, shorten the stock all the way up before butt slammage.

For the "Underride", slamming the butt only wedges that bastard in there tighter. That why you need to move the bolt back but push fwd on the CH to keep the cartridge pinned fwd. It will pop out.

so that is what its called . i had one of those a couple of months ago in my bushmaster m4 - with a HK mag running 62 gr. ball . it was a bear to clear it to say the least . i used a spent shell to gently get the bolt back enough to let the round drop free that was pinned in there . fortunately i havent had anyother problems since with that mag .
