BAR wasn't a failure because it supported bolt action rifles and low capacity semi's (Garands), once Korea was over and the bad guys got AKs they were obsolete. I'm with you 100% on the PKM though...

This is why you have a quad-rail. Put the red dot on the right, bi-pod on the left, and shoot that baby gangta style. Need the BAD lever for ease of use when prone.

What's wrong with being cynical about a new product? You should be skeptical of anything going into or on a weapon until it can prove it's reliability to you. Even more so if it's going to be used in a defensive application. Hell, I'm still skeptical of every single pmag I buy until I feel I've ran it enough and am comfortable keeping it around.

    As far as the ar15/m4's;

How will these mags work with the magazine release? Will the added weight of the 100rd mag cause an issue? I've always heard horror stories of the 100rnd beta drums wearing out the mag releases and eventually dropping the $200 drum on the ground.

I assume you guys have done extensive testing on it, I was just curious about the long-term effects of using a magazine that is 3x the weight of a standard loaded mag.

    Thanks in advance!
I have not had any time behind the 100 rounder. However, so far I am quite impressed with the 60 rounder. Although early in the game-
Unless you are significantly smaller then I am (5'6") you can very much use the 60 in the prone. Due to it's added width, it is also very pleasant to shoot from that position.
A fully loaded 60 isn't that bad to carry, conduct a bolt lock reload and the weapon is still easy to swing around and maneuver.

Much more to follow in the near future. Remember, this is a new product.
I know that doesn't aswer all your questions. Fell free to "watch this space."

Look where the market is right now, though. Completely saturated with aftermarket parts.

After things like the HK 416 magazine debacle, all bets are off.

The BAR is kinda heavy.. but a few were still used in the 30s to pretty good effect by Bonnie and Clyde. More than one occasion did they successfully hold off a force of police that used Thompsons (pretty high capcacity) or even other BARs.

30-'06 is good bro. I always thought that the BAR was replaced by the M60. I thought the Stoner 63 was a better choice than both overall for the time period. The PKM was around in the 60s though... So really... Its still PKM FTW.

It does not take 100 bullets to kill someone. I keep hearing stories from Vietnam that these guys carried 20+ loaded mags around all the time...shooting them all at once blindly one after another. I just do not see why -- The M16 just could not shoot that much in a short time period without real issues. I can tell you that my AK74 will..... I would bet my SR16 would... but I have not tried it. M16A1? No.

Either way... These mags should be pretty cool. Surefire usually makes very durable and reliable products. The prices are just the name of the game. If any good 50+ round mags get made there is no way they will cost 30$ each.

I agree with you in that if you make me carry an IAR with 750 rounds of ammo in 30 round magazines that is kinda a failure. How are you going to carry that many? lol...

Personally I think the first three to five replies basically dictate what will be said everyone else. I've read some first posts of a thread and thought 'that is the most retarded thing I've ever seen' (edit: which isn't what I think about this product), and then I scroll down to people saying it will be the greatest product ever when released... I also notice that usually none of those people are people that have a lot of weight to throw around.

While it might just be semantics, there is nothing wrong with being skeptical, and testing a new product until you ensure it's reliability. It is the negativity and cynicism that I don't understand. Someone, with an excellent reputation, makes a new 60 round magazine and immediately guys aree screaming "FAIL!"

While I have seen it a lot, I don't understand the contrarian mentality. There are a lot of guys that run redimags with 60 rounds on the gun and this seems, if it is reliable, to be a solution to this without the reload.
