Is it safe to put a G17 top end on a G19 frame?

    thanks,

    You can't. It's too long.

If you want a G17 sized slide on a G19 frame you need to have a G17's framed professionally shortened to G19 size by someone like Bowie or Robar.

Its an fairly easy "conversion" to have the 17 grip length shortened.

It can be done but you need an extended piece to cover the guide rod/spring combo, LW sells one, they have conversions for the G34 uppers on the G19 frame as well.

Plus you will need a LW 19L barrel, standard 17 barrel will not work.

    yeah, different locking lug...

can you change the locking insert thing (tired, can't remember what it's called) in the frame?

i do know for a fact that a G19 upper will slap right onto a G26 lower and function flawlessly, but things are different with the 17/19.

Yes the locking lugs are different. I forgot to specify it, but all of the information is contained in links on the page I provided.

I have never shot a G19 with a G17 slide, but have shot a G19 with a G34 slide/upper. Pretty neat toy if you have the cash to spare.

Might I ask why? The 9mm doesn't have enough recoil for the marginally heavier G17 slide to provide a benefit. The 9mm's projectile weight doesn't provide enough range for you to realize any benefit from an additional .5 inches of barrel lenght. Finally, some would argue that the G19 is more accurate, I say they are handguns and accuracy variance is marginal. Not trying to burst your bubble, just trying to save you some cash. By the way I have a G17 and a G23 (.40 with a 9mm conv barrel).

I know almost nothing about the Glock system. I want to understand what it can do, so I look for well-informed, experienced folks and try (with varying degrees of success) not to sound too idiotic.
