I've had this done to me before and it's no picnic. My way to deal with it was wait until the idiot holsters his weapon and them politely but sternly talk with the individual. Don't want to startle the moron when the gun is still in his hand. It doesn't matter what range I go to, there are always people who don't handle guns safely.

I'm fond of loudly saying, "please don't point your gun at me!", or "muzzle!" Also, "trigger finger!" where applicable, too.

I generally don't visit local gunshops or chain stores much anymore. I'm sick of being muzzle swept, and seeing others being muzzle swept. I'm tired of seeing people pick up guns by the trigger. I'm tired of listening to bubba talk about how "insert stupid gun myth" will scare 'em off. I'm tired of gunshop employees who know less about guns than I know about nuclear engineering (I'm an athletic trainer by the way, and am by no means a gun expert).

I've come to the conclusion that if a shop carries Extreme Shock, Lorcin, Hi-Point or has a .50 BMG "Sniper Rifle" on the counter, I simply look and don't speak, and generally don't stay long.

This was probably a sign that you shouldn't have posted it here. I realize that you wanted to vent but still...

Ask 'em if they ever heard of a clearing barrel.

For sure I would have been raising hell.

The only time getting flagged doesnt piss me off is when its a teammate swinging his gun over to save my life, and even then its rare. But I worked part time at a gun shop and got flagged on a almost daily basis by coworkers and customers, all of which were not of Mil or Le background. my favorite thing was when a customer would walk in, ask about a holster or mag or something, and then quickly draw a loaded, concealed handgun. My startle reflex tells me to draw my own weapon and reward the moron for his actions. But despite countless "close calls" and following ass-chewings, that shit never ceased to run my day. "I just wanted to see if my gun fits the holster" So many people are clueless. Coworkers flaging me with loaded pistols, or handing their own loaded carry gun to a customer made me rethink my extra cash and new toys at dealer prices. Gunshop guys are generally like anyone else, ignorant and dangerous with the very wares they sell. Get your knowledge from here, walk into the shop and say what you want to buy, and nothing else.

What shocks me is how pervasive the whole gun shop mentality is no matter where you go in the country. It all boils down to the mentality of the people behind the counter. Their personalities and, most of the time, ignorance seep through when they are speaking to customers. I don't know if it is the type of people that are hired or if it is just a nurturing of that type of thinking once they are hired. Like I was once told, "If you pay in peanuts, you will only attract monkeys."

You acknowledged that the thread belonged in GD, just because you couldn't post it there wasn't an invitation to find somewhere else to dump it. Not trying to be a jerk or anything but the wrong forum is the wrong forum, there's a reason access to GD is restricted and it's to force people to contribute to the other forums instead of upping their post count with [ultimately useless] threads like this. If you notice there's no other "gunshop stories" posted in this section. Follow?
