As disclaimer, we sell LMT so take it for what it's worth, but we also shoot LMT ourselves. ALSO I just saw in their new price book, they make a gas piston plug with normal and suppressed mode instead of the standard On/off gas plug. This should make shooting suppressed even smoother. With this system, you can swap carrier and barrel to have a DI 10.5" in the same gun, or 16" stainless DI gun in the same gun (and on and on and on!). My 2 cents- buy the LMT, you won't regret it.
Thanks for the info. The barrel swap out between a DI and gas system may be the final straw.

Kind of the conclusion I came to, as well. Decisions, decisions...

    Appreciate any feedback.

They are always trashing pistons on here, but don't pay any attention. Funny how you've heard many good things about LWRC, but every time you bring them up on here they start bashing them? Then they'll turn around and tell some guy how awesome his SCAR is. I think that Mega has a very good thing going on and I look forward to seeing more from them. Also, Addax Tactical has a new 12.5" piston upper coming out next month (supposed to be a good one) and PWS has some strong offerings...most notably the 7" Diablo which is a bad little monster. IMHO, I think pistons are the wave of the future, and think they definitely here to stay - plus, they'll just keep getting better.

If you like the look of the MI rail, then you should definitely check out Samson's new Evolution rail and read a bit about it. I think it would be great with an Adams Arms piston system, who everyone probably trashes on here, too. Adams has a really nice, simple system that's easy to take down and clean on the fly (and it has an adjustable gas system for Regular, Suppressed, and Off). Here's the Samson link:

The reviews are good on this one, the thermal bushing is genius, and I think Samson is a better company than MI (from experience). Good luck.

The versatility of the MRP system is hard to beat. I have a 12" piston system in my MRP CQB which I bought because I got a good deal on it and frankly wanted a 12" barreled SBR. I shaved some of the extra weight associated with the somewhat bulky gas block by having the barrel dimpled by Nefarious Arms. This was not necessary however I cannot help but modify everything I own. It is a nice handling, compact system that I am glad I invested in; especially because I have a can on the way. The best part is that with a torx key I can change the barrel in a minute or so to my 12.5" 6.8 spc barrel and BCG or 16" DI etc etc..

    Cheers

    buddy...

I Googled "Nefarious Arms" but didn't come up with any results. Does the guy have a web page? Also, do you know if he offers radial fluting, or solely dimpling? Can you notice a sizable difference in weight after the dimpling?

I have a bolt gun with a straight flutedbarrel, but it's a heavy-profile tube, so it doesn't exactly feel light.

    gatordev...

Concerning LMT - everyone I know that has one has raved on and on about them.

    Regards

The guy associated with Nefarious Arms is Marvin and his contact information is Nefariousarms@live.com. I don't believe he has a website. I am sure he can perform radial fluting but don't know off-hand.

As far as the dimpling goes; I weighed it both pre-dimpling and post-dimpling, however I can't recall how much weight difference it was. I did take photos so I will check my files and get back to you.

Thanks for the info. I had looked at the Samson earlier, but I thought I remembered reading somewhere (can't remember if it was here or WEVO) that someone had quality/durability issues. I'll have to dig around the 'net and read some reviews.

So many choices. Good thing the government takes so long to make it possible for me to buy anything.

So what makes you say MI isn't the "better" company? Not arguing, just curious to hear experiences.

One more thought, I own both DI and piston operating systems for my LMT and prefer the piston. They both shoot great, one is just easier to clean for me. If you do end up going the LMT MRP route, it is usually cheaper to buy the piston system first, and add the DI carrier and barrel later, instead of going DI and buying the piston conversion.

If I do go LMT, this was exactly my plan. Appreciate the recommendation.
