ATF visits to FFL's are rare, to individules doing the right thing and minding their business, rarer still.

Folks would be surprised at how difficult it can often be to get BATFE interested in opening a case. Especially if it's not in one of their workload priority areas, which most potential gun cases are not.

Or how brief, perfunctory, and underwhelming a visit from a BATFE inspector or agent can be. Especially if they're bored and working a stats case.

I don't have any illegal weapons, I'm a former Marine and my wife is a Police Officer so I'm not worried about them checking in, I just don't want to be harassed or bothered on a regular basis.
Never been visited by ATF at my residence.

The GCA and NFA does not somehow magically void your 4th Amendment rights.

IF they show up at your door w/o a search warrant you can set up a meeting at their Field Office if they for some reason want to see your NFA stuff and you agree to show them. You just owning legally transferred NFA items isn't a reason for them to acquire a search warrant. Previous to the 1986 FOPA I don't know what went on.

It is my understanding, and keep in mind I was a kid at the time, that in the PRE FOPA days NFA owners were subject to compliance inspections. And this along with regular ATF abuses is what kept most people from "going on the list" in the days when MGs were still legal to register.

Ironically the legislation that correct many of these problems, also closed the registration.

I can recall many of my Dads friends talking about compliance inspection visits by ATF to their homes. But I'm not sure if they were private individuals with NFA registered weapons or if they were home FFLs with SOTs. Could have been either as my Dad knew lots of machine gun owners.

LOL. Add a SOT to your FFL and it will be an annual thing.

I thought as an individual you could be asked by ATF to see your paperwork, but not the weapons themselves.
May God have mercy on my enemies, because I won't.

ATF is a regulatory agency so it's a whenever they need to contact you thing for FFLs and FFL/SOTs. Let's not start screaming the sky is falling. If you're a licensed dealer or manufacturer your contact with ATF will be a regular thing.

If you were building motor vehicles your contact with DOT and DMV would also be very regular. Comes with the territory, please remove the tinfoil.

Apparently you didn't read those threads. They were other reason involved in one of those threads. In the other it was an allegation of an illegal weapon being manufactured. That is a far cry from legal civilian ownership.

Indeed I did. It appears both cases were law abiding citizens. However, due to others' actions, they were paid a visit.

    Point being - it happens.

ETA: Maybe someone with ATF experience can enlighten us all.

Apparently your reading comprehension is fouled up.

Case 1: A report is made that someone has manufactured an illegal weapon. That has nothing to do with an average citizen who owns NFA weapons.

Case 2: BATFE as part of its on-going "Operation Gunrunner?" visits a citizen that has made multiple purchases of weapons. No NFA weapons were involved.

Neither of these incidents are related to the subject at hand. Is that clear enough?
