I'm familiar with the arguments favoring the mid-length, but how are we establishing it's "more reliable?" Measures? Stoppage? Component failure? Service life? Other?

The "funds to upgrade the bolt carrier" right from the start would amount to:
$5 staking job on the gas key
$1 crane o-ring
$4 Wolf extractor spring
With those hugely expensive upgrades, I suspect that the rifle will run just fine for abour 5000 rounds when you should be replacing many of the springs within the whole gun.
PM sent your way randall.
Lucky,
I think a RRA upper worked over by Randall or G&R would be a great way to go. You could do the same items yourself but for the tiny amount of money Randall is talking about why not just let them do it?![]()
Good luck in your continued search!

One other little tid-bit on the mid-length.
If you're tall, 6' and over you may just plain like the longer hand guards. If it's more comfortable for you you'll shoot it faster and more accurate. Some things boil down to fit & comfort, much like a handgun.
