Marking your screws to know if they're backing out

What would be suitable to mark your screws? I was thinking a sharpie at first, but the metallic silver might be too distracting. Regular red wouldn't show up I don't think. I've seen it done like the rifle below, but I'm not sure what to use.

    We use this on aircraft:

But any lacquer paint would work. You can apply it with a toothpick to make the witness mark. Or, if they make such an item, you could use a lacquer paint pen.

I've only got my Aimpoint and mount marked right now. I used a silver paint pen; if you look close you can see the marks on the screws, one between the mount and optic and yet another between mount and upper.

"too distracting" Yes you want it to stick out so that you can see that something is out of turn.

Blue locktite, witness marks plus check the torque on the screws every so often.

Nail polish works a little better than most paint pens.

The witness marks from paint pens tend to come off with simple solvents.

I really do think you're thinking about this a bit too much man lol.

Yep I use FDE lacquer paint and apply it with a q-tip.

Could not agree more....every now and again I see a specimen that looks like its a little to "tactically witness marked"

I made a habit a long time ago to trust blue loctite and that ancient old force call torque
