The three CMMG BCG's I have (less than 1 year old) are all staked properly like the LMT above.

Cheaper than the MOACKS? Yes, the P-MOACKS.

There are cheaper, but there are none better.

I recovered my costs for various tools pretty quickly. Maybe you can too?

I just had my smith stake my BM carrier. He just did it with a punch and hammer. It's not as pretty as ones done with a staking tool, but it's the same concept.

Do you guys see any problem with that method?

Nice job Robb. This picture thread will do well when people as the question about whether or not their carrier key is staked properly.

When in doubt restake. You can't have TOO MUCH or TOO GOOD of staking on the carrier key, this would be like having TOO MUCH money or TOO MUCH reliability (no such critter).

It sure answered that question for me, Grant -- and it helped confirm that my month-old S&W M&P 15 has an LMT BCG with a properly staked key. Thanks, gotM4.

Okay, I understand the idea behind why you'd want the carrier key bolt heads to be staked, and why each maker would appear to be a little bit different. Why is it that among the same brands I find differing types, or even none. For instance when I compared my Armalite to the photo in the previous post it appeared more like one of the Colt images except it also had two additional round indents to the inside of each bolt head as opposed to the outsides of the head.

I looked at Bushmasters, Olympic Arms, and a DPMS in addition to mine. None are the same and the BM's varied from one rifle to the next.

Not wanting to suggest that such a feature is completely useless I can only think of one instance of a gas leak I personally encountered casued by a loose gas key. Someone came to me after he removed the allen screws B/C he thought that was the way you remove the cam pin!

In any event the aforementioned round indents on my Armalite seem to "lock" in the allen screws more than the "staking." Is this just a variation on the methods discussed in this thread?
