Tinman, this guys is one of the top builders in the country and is only a few minutes from you, in Jefferson Ga. He will have just about every stock you can think of so that you could try them out and see what you like. His name is Jared Joplin and is an extremely nice guy.

All the above 'smiths are good to go. If you want to learn more join us over at Snipershide...Also check out the "for sale" section there, you probably can get something in the same line w/o the wait.
I shoot at Gunsite frequently and know Jered as well.
If you want an M40A1, GAP has some ex-2112 USMC armorers in his employ that can build you an identical M40A1. Where you'll find an issue is if you want to go 100% accurate. The scope mount and rings, and the Unertl scope are either near impossible to come by, or very expensive (scope is typically $2500 alone). If you want the base rifle accurate and then plan to use quality base, rings and scope, you're o.k.
Jered can build you anything you want, and I HIGHLY recommend him. You will not have a complaint with a rifle that comes out of his shop. He can certainly build you an M40A1 clone, but to me, it be special to have one built by a guy that used to build and maintain them.
Gunsite is south of Athens, and Chief (the owner) is working to extend it to 700+ yards. It's a great range to learn the basics since there is little to no wind to contend with.
1OO% accurate?....Just call John at U.S.O....Them Scopes,S.Mount & Rings are also as accurate as you can get for alot less...I've seen an MST-100 go for as low as $1700.00 at the Hide. I went the cheeper rout with a U.S.O SN3 1.8-10X37
