FYI, this is a commie made mount ,but it works very well and is preferred *by me* over the DSA, which sits too high for co-witness.)

It would not tighten down on a different FAL with an even lower US made rail that's no longer available. I checked the R1 factory mount on a DD rail also - no joy on getting a tight fit there either.

Does anyone know if the low mount LaRue or ADM T1 mounts increase the height over the factory mount? I shoot my FALs on steel out to 500 meters and the ability to co-witness is a biggie for 300M and beyond.

I know it's mounted way back, but due to astigmatism and eye dominance that's where it works for me. Range trip as soon as things warm up a hair.

The R-1's factory mount is for weaver rails, which is why it won't fit the DD rail and I'm assuming the other rail.

Snapped some pics with the iphone this evening. I'm happy with my first attempt at painting something. You can still see some silver around the knob but I'm ok with it.

What kind of paint did you use, looks like it matches up nice to the black anodizing. Any prep work?

The only flat black paint I had on hand was Rustoleum High Heat so I used that. Before I sprayed, I wiped it down good, lightly sanded it, and taped up the lenses with 3M painters tape. I actually applied the tape directly to lenses and used a razor blade to cut around the housing/scope body, making the tape cover the lens only so I could get the paint on the rim as well.

Also, I was an idiot and sanded it with the lens covers on so I wouldn't get any grit on the lens but as you can see, the paint on the front rim is a little darker and slightly goopy since I forgot to sand that part. So don't forget to sand the part that is covered by the lens cover in the front.

    Minding my own business

There I was, minding my own business reading M4C.net. Ran across the Midway R-1 thread and WHAM!!! $611 poorer.

Thanks to the OP for putting this up. I will put these on top of the two FDE SCAR's from Grant's group buy (mind my own business then too) with either a couple of Bobro's or Larue's. They will likely go for a Cerakote tan or black when they arrive next week.

Brother M4C'ers, you ROCK!!! My pocket book, that is....
