In Brownell's alumahyde, which color is the best match to FDE? I see earth brown and desert tan...
Put my new H-1 on a Larue LT 661 I had. Used Duracoat Dark Brown to paint it. After painting three of these things I found if you tape over the front lens and cut the tape around the outside edge then push it into the lens recess it fits good allowing one to paint the lens lip.

If you look you can see that the two T-1s on the right are black on the inside of the tube, the H-1 is silver.

Ah, I have not, but it was recommended on another board. Better option? I've never painted an optic.
Edit: wait, I'm not sure your reservations are all that bad. As you mentioned there are no parts being fitted here, and I don't care about the week. The sight is going on an SBR that I don't even have a BBL for Form 1 done for, so no hurry.

Alumahyde does have a high build, but since you should not be painting the bottom mounting surface anyway, I think this would be one instance where the thickness is not an issue.
Actually they were, but when JFreuler gets around to posting his pics
he may prove me wrong.
I went through several cans of Alumahyde back in my FAL building days - it's outstanding for refinishing the OEM plastic furniture, including covering/filling in moderate scratches. I did not care for it on metal - too thick and brittle. But you could easily have a different opinion.
For those of you worried about how it's going to look.....Just roll with the bling....

Needs a diamond studded glove to complete the ensemble.
