MC Operator. If you're going to go TRP, I'd say you're getting close to semi-custom price range. If you look around, you should be able to get an MC Operator for just over $1000. If you spend a few hundred bucks more, you can get a good used Baer. I would definitely take a Baer over a TRP any day of the week....then if you spend even more, I'd just get a Springfield Professional.

To the OP, you may want to check out the Colt Rail or even the S&W "E" series pistols. They may be something to rule out.

I thought the "MC" in "MC Operator" meant "Marine Corps"

Anyone seen or handled one of the new S&W E series 1911's yet?. I've looked at other S&W 1911's and wasn't impressed with its value compared to a Colt or Springfield.

I would lean towards the MC Operator, especially if you want a rail. The TRP adds the mag well and the checkering but they can be added to the MC Operator if you want. As noted by others the Railed TRP brings in the adjustable sight, the FLGR and the Bull barrel. One of my team members recently got one of these with the Harris fixed sight mentioned above. This is your only option as the slide is still cut for the adjustable. I was not really impressed with the TRP Operator.

If you are running the gun hard you will want to follow DocGKR's advice and spring for the Pro with the light rail.

The MC Operators and the one TRP have all gone back to Springfield to get their ejectors pinned. They come press fit but on a hard shooting schedule will work loose with in about 3K-5000 rounds. Not sure if this would become an issue but we have never waited to find out. At the first sign of play they go back to the factory for a pin. The Pro models come with the ejector pinned.

The other issue we have had is the lack of a bevel on the guide rods (both full and regular lengths). If you shoot a lot the back top edge of the guide rod will begin to beat up the front of the barrel lugs. I could post pics if you want them but do not have them available right now. The 3 Pros I have dealt with all had the back top edge beveled for clearance, none of the MC Operator's or the TRPs have had that bevel.

All in all we have been thrilled with the performance of the MC Operators. I have over 27,000 through mine and it still runs great.

The other thing you will need to do is keep it well lubed with a quality product. We rely on SLiP 2000 EWL. We run this almost exclusively on both the 1911's and our ARs.
    Mike,

Just out of curiosity, are these MC Operators issued to your team by the department or did you each buy them individually? Also, with all the talk of the 1911 being outdated, a hobby gun, HK45 M&P 45 being better, etc do you have any plans to replace your teams 1911's?

I don't believe anyone has said the 1911 is a hobby gun, nor, if you read, have they said the HK45 and M&P 45 are *better*.

What they have said is the 1911 is an *enthusiasts gun*...or, in plain english, that it is a gun for the dedicated shooter, not the person who wants a gun to shoot and not have to take care of. The Hk45 and M&P are better guns for the average shooter that does not like to deal with maintenance or knowing the basics of taking care of and repairing minor things on a pistol themselves.

I've heard LAV and Ken Hackathorn state, "If you treat your gun like most people do their lawnmowers, get a Glock."

The 1911 is, for the most part, not a "sock drawer" platform. There are always exceptions to this, of course, as I've heard RIAs run great with little maintenance, but are not "as precise" as their higher end counterparts. Think of a higher end 1911 as a race car and not a Honda Civic.

All that said, I picked up an MC Operator tonight (thanks again czydj) and all I have to say is it was worth the wait.

I was under the impression that "MC" stood for Marine Corps.

I went with the MC as well. Took about 3 months of searching to find one but I finally did. It will be here tuesday. Not my first 1911 but I'm excited, I will be taking this one to the KH LAV class in Aug.

Yes, actually both LAV and Ken Hackathorn have said, that in this day and age, both a HK45 and a M&P45 is a better choice for a multiple of reasons. I have read that and heard it straight from their mouths. I'm not here to argue whether the 1911 is still God's gun. I am trying to get some first hand knowledge from a member of this community who actually uses MC Operators in a LEO setting, as members of my team want to make the switch and the MC Operator is in the running.
