    Extra Spikes complete lower

When I recently self-cancelled my .22LR upper project by getting an S&W M&P15-22, I found myself with a complete Spikes lower with nothing for it to do! So after much reading on this forum I think I'm going with a Spikes complete upper in 16" M4 carbine configuration. I read from posts here and from Spikes own specifications that they do the same things as the big dogs for less money, plus I like the idea of having a complete product by the same manufacturer. I also think the Spikes will be a step up from my other M4, a Stag Model 1(although I've been quite pleased with the performance of the Stag). Is this a good choice or am I missing something in my logic? Thanks for any advice. WB

You'll be fine. You can get them a bit cheaper from aimsurplus than Spikes directly if you want a plain carbine system.

As far as I know Spikes only Magnetic particle tests thier barrels and bolts. They do not do the high pressure testing.BCM,DD,LMT etc. does both MP and HP testing on thier barrels and bolts. If i'm wrong please let me know.

I dont know how much the spike's uppers are, but smartgunner has a deal on DD uppers. My brother and i both ordered the 16" LW mid with the omega 12" rails. It seemed to be the best deal around. I will say that i just got a complete lower from spikes, as that was a good deal .

If you did do "much reading on this forum" you would have known
that for a few reasons "Spikes" is kinda a taboo subject because
of what some call poor quality materials and others praise as a decent rifle.
So it tends to lead into arguing and "feelings getting butthurt" and then a mod/admin having to lock the topic.

I have no clue why it stirs up soooo much emotions around here so don't be surprised if this thread gets locked.

If it's just going to be a range/plinker i say build away and shoot the hell out of it.

    Thanks

Thanks for the thoughts and advice, guys. I realize that there are a lot of good choices out there like BCM, DD, and others.

I also feel like I need to say that I don't work for Spikes or know anyone who does! I happened to see the lower at my lgs, liked it and got it at the time for a planned .22 upper project. Once I changed that plan I needed a 5.56 upper and was looking for the best "bang" for the buck. Also thought it might be good to have brand uniformity of upper and lower. If this thread poses a problem for anyone, it can be closed. WB

Would you happen to have a link to it? This is all I can find on thier site:
Barrel is 4150 Chromoly Vanadium Alloy, M4 barrel extention, Chrome chamber and bore, 5.56mm Nato chamber, 1:7 Twist, Magnetic particle testing on every barrel, Phosphate finish.
