    Non-Rotating Trigger and Hammer Pins

How vital are they? Are they a must? Ive been told to lube the pins when cleaning, and have been doing so to reduce friction/wear caused by the pins rotating in the lower receiver.

I like them a lot as it is one more thing that cannot go wrong. People that generally do not like them have never had a hammer pin walk and gotten that not so nice "click" sound.

I can't give you the loads of experience that many here can, but the rifle I just put together has the hammer pin walking out every time I mess with the rifle, either doing some dry firing at home or shooting at the range. It was walking after less than 20 rounds. Gotm4 pointed out that it could be merely a bad j-spring. He's probably right and I'm changing hammers soon, but the pins are on order anyway. Like Grant says, one less thing to go wrong.

Don't know on the LPK, just stuff from a big box-o-parts that a guy sold the shop where I work. Probably some bunch of model-1 sales gunshow special parts. Hammer has the step on it hanging up on the firing pin as the bolt carrier is unshrouded. It's an SE so I see no reason to unload it, I'll just do a fire control group instead.

My real concern was in reference to wear the pins my inflict on the lower receiver.

All of the parts and the receiver were new, unused, so no wear on any parts.

No I meant as for my original post. The pins are supposed to reduce wear on the receiver from the pins rotating. I'm wondering how long before the wear would cause the pins to start walking.

My only experience with walking pins was on my M-16. The pins would walk after about 100 rounds down the tube. I got the KNS pins and that fixed that problem, but revealed another one.

My autosear was worn to the point that it was allowing the hammer to follow the BCG in.

So I got a new LPK and autosear, installed it using the new pins that had been included. I was curious if the receiver was worn to the point that it would allow brand new pins to move. I still had pin walkin problems, but it would not disable the MG. Once I figured that out, in went the KNS pins to stay.

That being my sample of one experience gives me the idea that it takes ALOT of rounds to get the holes and pins so out of spec that they will walk out and disable the weapon. At least enough rounds to wear an auto sear out in an RR M16.

That seems to be the consensus at TOS. I'm getting a lot of "you only need them if your running a full auto, or you using a registered reciever", and that its a waste of time and money on a semi-auto AR.

Do I need to remove the pins and my LPK to install them?
