It would take a lot of work to do that to a semi-auto rifle. My father's '74 SP1 has digested several thousand rounds a year since it was new and the pin holes still look fine. Hell, he's still using the original pins and FCG after 33yrs.
My C3 dealer once showed me a registered M16 lower that had seen untold thousands of rounds in full-auto before the pin holes showed enough wear to cause problems. The owner was trying to find someone who could weld them up and re-drill the holes so he wouldn't be stuck with a $12k paperweight. I never found out what happened with that situation.
