    .308 / 7.62

so i was looking into getting a a long range precision rifle with the .308 calibre but curious if i can just load 7.62 in it? reading around i have decided .308 match ammo only, no junk. but i'm curious as to nato rounds compadibility. i know you can fire .223 and 5.56 in a 5.56 chamber but only .223 in a .223 barrel so there are some differences. it would be awesome if someone in the know could link or write a small faq about these rounds. i would like to get into reloading but even hours of reading i'm still having trouble getting into it, oh and the funds.

You can fire 7.62NATO in a .308 chambered rifle; but you can't fire .308 in a 7.62 chambered rifle. I will try to add a link to this later.

We've run .308 & 7.62 ammo in firearms ranging from factory commercial bolt, semi, and single shot rifles, custom built bolt and semi rifles, while doing the same with arms ranging from the M-14, M-60, 1919 conversions, HK-21, etc. with no problems so far.
