    16" Light Weight Middy

    Happy New Year!

This is my first AR build.

Aero Precision lower (local Co. = no transfer fee) - $86
    G&R LPK - $94
    KNS pins - $32
    Tango Down grip -$32

DD upper with DD 16" 1:7 CHF LW middy -$406
    A2 FH -incl.
    MOE handguard -incl.
    Magpul short rail adapter -$5
    Streamlight TLR-1 -$109
    Mount-N-Slot QD Sling mount -$37
    BCM BCG -$138
BCM Mod 4 charging handle -$44
BCM Mil-Spec stock kit with H buffer and standard spring -$68
    Vltor Carbine Modstock -$50
    Troy rear folder -$94
    Aimpoint H1 -$400
    DD micro mount -$65
    VCAS QD Sling -$40

    Build total (not including PMags, sling/mount, light/mount and Optics/Mount) = $1039
Build total (not including PMags) = $1695

**I'm not good with numbers but most of these were directly from the invoices and most included shipping...adding them together is another story**

Overall, I'm satisfied with the build, it's weight is great and the handling/ergo is good. The only thing I'm not so sure about is the Tango Down grip. Thought I'd give it a try but after shooting a little over 200 rounds, it feels a bit small for my hands. I'll either change it out to the larger one or put an MOE on it depending on which one improves my accuracy the most. The KNS pins are the only unnecessary items on the rifle...

As funds permit I'll upgrade the DD micro mount to a Larue QD and I'm going to play around with different comps/FH's, first being a Battle Comp but I have another build in the works and to show I've been paying attention here, I have a lot more range ammo and training classes to pay for. My first carbine class will be in February through LMS Defense.

I have a TD BG17 that I haven't mounted up yet, but I'm liking what I see of it so far quite a bit. I'm going to mount it this week and run it in drills this coming Tuesday.

I look forward to your write up in The OFFICIAL "Which AR PISTOL GRIP do you use and why?" Thread!

I'm interested to see what you think of it and if it'll likely be what I'm hoping it is.

What does it weigh as is, unloaded?

Awesome looking rifle. I'm putting together a bcm upper/lower build that looks almost identical to that.

You're off to a good start - congrats on skipping the usual do-over rifle (that would look more like yours)

It seems like people don't realize that spending some extra doing some research up front can save a lot of money (and disappointment) in the long run. I always wonder why so many people buy first and then do the research. I'm glad to see others doing it the right way.
