Well the way I understand it is that a 1:7 twist is good for bullet weights 55 - 80 grains, I shoot 55 gr out of mine and with open sights I get pretty good accuracy out to 100 yards, haven't shot any futher than that yet, and haven't put my scope's on yet either.
As much as I'd like to have a stockpile of Mk262 to shoot, I mostly shoot 55gr ball. It does fine at the ranges I typically punch paper (25-300 yards), and if it really came down to it I'd have no qualms putting it to serious use.
I do play around with loading 75gr, though, so my barrels are all 1/7.
When demigod and I went shooting while I was on R/R we were banging away at a steel pig at about 220 yds. I was using my Noveske with an ACOG and shooting Federal 55gr. FMJ. We were both making consistent hits with my carbine and his weps.

sorry for reviving this thread but I have a 1 in 7 twist barrel on my custom AR15 and a friend has mentioned that if i shoot anything less than 65 grain it wears the rifling out faster? Is there a significant increase or is it not that noticeable?
I have a Colt M4 with 1:7 twist and a DPMS with 1:9. I shoot 55gr. FMJ and see no difference in accuracy. I would venture to say the Colt barrel is a bit better, but at 100 yards I haven't noticed a difference. I do try to shoot more 62g M855 from the 1:7 Colt though, and I just bought some 75g match bullets to reload and see what accuracy I get out of the Colt at longer distances.
To be blunt and brief, I agree.
No doubt!
