    Lightbulb XCR and POF

I am new to ARs and I have recently been introduced to gas piston ( I hope that is the right term) ARs. The XCR and POF are the ones that come to mind at the moment. I need some help in figuring out what makes these weapons better than a regular blow back (Hope that is the right term) AR. Are the XCR and POF or any other gas piston ARs more reliable? Are they easier to fix in the field? Are there enough suppliers to fix them if something goes wrong? Are the more accurate? Any and all information concerning these weapons is appreciated. Help a newbie understand

Hello the regular gas impingement system would serve you fine. Besides they are cheaper and parts are readily available. If somethinng goes wrong you would have to send it back to the manufacturer for repair with the piston systems. They are not more accurate and most well made AR's can shoot better than I can.

Lately I've been hearing folks getting their LWRCs in a couple weeks, although the standard quote is 6-8 weeks. Some configurations ship faster than others, I'm sure, but they're chewing through their backlog in a hurry now that they've resolved their barrel supply issues. You can learn about their guns at their forums (lwrifles.com).

I can't speak to POF wait times.

The LMT piston MRP isn't out yet and guesses vary from "August" to "After the SHOT show."

FWIW, the HK and LWRC are well-liked by people whose opinions I respect (if one can still respect somebody who spends $5,000 on an HK 416 upper ), with HK being the only piston gun I've never heard about going down at a training class, but that could just be because of their rarity.

XCR isn't really an AR. Neither is the upcoming Masada piston gun, but it sure looks interesting.

If you're new to ARs, I think the standard advice is to start with a DI gun, with the most recommended one 'round these parts being a Colt 6920. Only if you're talking about very short barrels, suppressed, or full auto do I think you'll start hearing more about going for a piston gun. But for your second (and third...) AR, whatever floats yer boat!

    Hi Dano,
We only saw 3 (the 4th shooter decided at the last minute to use an AR).
#1 had multiple FTE. Pretty constant. Good shooter, not real familiar with the platform at the time.

#2 had used the gun (tried to would be more appropriate) in a previous class with not luck. He had physical issues at this class, and withdrew, so no hard observations on this

Shooter #3 had the ejector break (possibly the screws holding it in seperated) causing total failure.
I haven't spoken to any of them since. The last guy (and the one who changed to an AR) are solid shooters, work in a shop that sells (sold) them.

    Hope this helps.
