That target is/was called a "Canadian bull". I have no idea why it was called that, but it was what we zeroed on in Army Basic in the early 70s. It was intended to be used at 25 meters (1000 inches) to get an approximate battlesight zero when a proper field fire range wasn't available.
Perhaps a Google search will turn it up.
I'm having the same difficulty as the OP; while I can still shoot MOT (Minute of Thug) at 100 yards and in with irons, the thrill (precision), as they say, is gone.
Sigh... time for a red dot. I'm in the process of getting those for my two target pistols.
Getting old sucks; truly.
