In my case I know that 1 MOA moves my group 1" at 100 Yds, 2" at 200, etc., etc. I don't think in Mils. Plus since I shoot fairly long ranges and already have my dope setup for a MOA/MOA Nightforce (2.5-10x32), I just stayed with MOA for the PST.

For "ranging" (estimating distances), the math is cleaner for MIL, but trust me - you are not going do any serious ranging with a 4x scope. (Not that I'm an expert, but you need 10x minimum for judging distances with a reticle).

Visually, I doubt you will see any difference in the MIL vs MOA reticle, but I don't have a Mil version to compare. Either one should work fine.

    mpom -
Cool. I've heard that as well.
Thanks for your comments.I think as you have posted but it is nice to hear the same thing from some one with more real world experience.

After quite a bit of searching I believe that this is the one I want for my SCAR 16S! I'm planning on the MIL reticle version, hopefully some places will have that in stock. Now I need to pin point the best mounts. What mounts are best? Although a QD isn't a requirement for me, I have a felling I'll be getting another free hat and dillo.

Picking out a mount for the SCAR should be interesting. You have a continues rail - correct? That would mean you don't need a cantilever type mount unless you just want one for versatility. It seems like just a set of rings in the proper height world work also.

If you do the math for ring height, the O/D for the ocular bell on mine is 1.634" without the factory scope caps. So half of that plus the thickness of the scope covers plus the height of the rear sight above the rail...unless I screwed up.

The thickness on the PST's factory scope caps are ~.125". For reference the rear bell on my NF 2.5x10x32 (including the factory caps) is about 1.736".

At least a couple of vendors report the PST 1-4 in stock right now per the chatter over at Snipers Hide, but probably best to call rather than place an online order. I'm interested in hearing what you go with.

It would be interesting to see if doubling up on the battery (i.e. increasing voltage) would increase the reticule LED brightness. Same trick was done with the old Tasco Optima's (i.e. Firepoint, Trijicon Red Dot, JP, etc.) to increase LED brightness. Granted a different battery cap/illumination intensity knob would be needed. Other than daylight illumination visibility, everything else about this scope is very acceptable.

Have read on the workbrian enos site that doubling up on batteries does not work for the razor 1x4. A call to mr hamilton @ vortex should answer the question .

Singlestack - I wonder ( pun intended) if you are making too much of the illumination thing? You are correct - it's not super bright in bright sunlight, but still visible including at my last 3Gun match. The sun is low in the sky right now and we shoot to the South. This makes for some very harsh light at my latitude.

But the best daylight contrast at distance, where some precision is needed, is always going to be the non-illuminated black reticle. The exception is a black target in the shade.

For CQB drills on IPSC targets, its easy to keep your focus on the target - both illuminated and not - no need to look for a cross-hair. In other words it's fast; and equal to a RD per my timer. The red illumination at CQB distance does feel nice however, but possibly just from a mental standpoint - my times were the same with the illum on or off.

No, not making a big issue, just wanting something with features that I prefer. It's the same daylight illumination issue with U.S. Optics and others. I am looking for a reticule with an uncluttered center dot like the Viper PST, with a full daylight, non-washout, illuminated reticule. I made my mind up to get an S&B Short Dot, but put that on hold when the Viper 1x4 PST was re-released. Before I dropped $2K on the S&B, I was just looking to see if possibly there might be some aftermarket fixes coming for the PST's illuminated reticule.

Out of curiosity, how does the Viper PST compare to the Burrist XTR?
