I wonder if that guy is a member here. If he is maybe he can enlighten us. If he isn't, maybe he should be...
I don't mind being a statistic as long as they put me in the "win" column...

Thats why I said it was for a goof. I didn't think it'd work out, it didn't, and I didn't take that setup out operationally. Just some unscientific sample of one testing.

    Relax.

I tried this once for a goof. Used a TA01 and an EOTech 556. Mostly to see how a 4X magnifier would affect the EOTech red dot.

The ACOG did work as a magnifier of sorts for the EOTech. However, I found that the reticle was pretty cluttered for my tastes, but if you want a BDC on your red dot magnifier, I guess it might be the ticket. Of course, weight and lack of flip to side capability can't bother you too much.

On the other hand, if you get assigned to an extended perimeter role, you can drop the EOTech, or turn it off, and run the ACOG by itself.

I didn't do a whole lot of testing with it, but I can see a very, very, very limited usefulness for this arrangement. Much better options are out there. Definitely not for me.
Actually if this was your set up it would be better to do the opposite. Leave the Eotech on all the time and remove the ACOG when going in to do an entry.

Interesting to say the least. That rifle looks busy!

That's probably what they're doing. Good point, Pat.

Half our team has EOTechs for entries, the other half has ACOGS for perimeter. I split between the perimeter team and the sniper team, so my view of the world is more "scope-centric".

The idea was not mine, it came from someone that had one it in one of the SOCOM folks.

Years ago, it was mating an M2 to a TA01NSN (M2 in front). When the EOTech came out, I've seen a few mount the EOTech in front of their 4x32 ACOGs.

This setup does add some versatility, but it has plenty of penalties: weight and bulk. I've never shot my rifle with the M2/TA01NSN, or EOTech/TA31F yet, I posted these pics years ago because someone wanted to see such a combination

Instead of putting two optics in tandem, I would learn to use the ACOG's BAC. Depending on the range I'm shooting at, I could mount either a 1x optic or an ACOG, but not together because I can't decide lol

That's about the size of it. As noted, the baseline idea is that you have a magnifier for your RDS that has a helpful BDC for longer shots. Folks that set it up right can gain some capability, of sorts.

Problem is, it's not usually done right. For example, most EOs are a 2.5" height over bore, the 4x rail-mounted ACOGs are 2.755" over bore; the heights don't automatically match up and the BDC gets jacked-up to the point of being cosmetic. The folks that remember this find ways to match the height of the EO to the ACOG; at that point it works....

...OR you could just get a single optic, train with it, and know your holds. Better, lighter, more cost-effective options exist.
