When was the last time a SWAT guy needed a BDC, I haven't seen to many take 3-4-500 m shots with their M4's? Swat sniper's average engagement is under 50m and 100m's is long for them.

Its not common but a few years ago we had a guy in a national park taking shots at people (fortunately with a handgun) at over 200 yards. The situation was resolved without blood shed but it proved a point there is no such thing as an average gun fight. Yes most are close but be ready for those that are not. The longest LEO sniper shot was in Central Park at just over 400 yards. The average is 55 yards.

Yes by all means have access to the proper equipment, but to run around with it day to day is foolish.

Were either of those two shots taken with an M4? I suspect they were actually taken with a properly equipped and zero'd sniper rifle like a Rem 700 in .308.

55 yards is 50 meters (the 20 cm's we can ignore).

The shot taken in Central park was by a SWAT sniper with a bolt gun. The shots we did not have to take luckily were with Iron sighed AR's I was running an Eotech at the time. SWAT did not arrive until after we had the situation resolved. SWAT is 4 hours away. I have since upgraded to a 1-6 SwarovskiZ6i with the BRT reticle. My feelings were that this would handle up close to 500 yards (furthest I have shot it) with relative ease.

Actually, I'm not sure this officer is doing either. He appears to be using the irons on the top of the ACOG.

Maybe he has an "upper 1/3rd cowitness" with the Eotech.
