I bought ten PMAGs (black, non-windowed, dated 07/07) and when brand-new, four of them wouldn't drop free from my LMT lower. However, after only two or three uses, they all now drop free. Whatever small amount of excess material there may have been on those four particular magazine bodies didn't last long.

I have heard of some people lightly sanding their PMAGs to get them to drop free. I guess it works, but you could also just use them a few times and see if they "get fixed" naturally. If you can't go shooting until next week, it's a good excuse to practice mag changes at home.

Exactly my experience with my LCW(LMT) lower. I just inserted and ejected it a few times and it began to drop free.

Grant, my lower is a PWA, and I have heard that they had tight magwells. I had an Orlite mag and it was tight, too.

I did sand them. All I did was smooth over the front where the casting plug spot was and hit the two tabs on the back where the mag starts to curve and the tabs act as a contact point for the magwell. The sides were fine. I did some checking with calipers before doing any alteration. This way I know I didn't compromise the mag body at all. They drop free now. I took one apart and looked inside. There's just no way for the cartridges to get out of line, and the follower tilts even less than their follower in a standard mag does. If they shoot like they look and feel, I'll definately be getting more soon. BTW, these are dated 7/07.

PMAGs fit mine and a buddies Colt as well as my LMT tightly as well. As well as the Colts and LMT lowers at the shop. I think the other companies like Bushy, RRA, Stag and S&W have slightly looser mag well dimensions. If I work the mag in and out of the gun 30 times or so they begin to drop under their own weight.

Roger on the lower. PWA (LMT), generally have magwells on the tighter side than most manufacturers.

Mine dropped free from one Colt and on another Colt one of them was trying to hang up on the way out. I took a well calibrated M-9 bayonet and dragged the blade down the fore and aft sides of the offending magazine at a 90 degree angle. One pass was enough to cure the ills. I think there was a little extra material where the molds split left on the magazine which I could probably have removed with my thumb nail.

I finally picked up a PMAG this weekend when I stopped by Dillon Precision for some other items.

I am impressed by how durable it feels. The mag definitely exceeded my expectations. I haven't live fired it yet, but it seats very easily on a closed bolt with 30 in the mag.

Mine does not drop free, but I'm sure it will after some use. All the nauseating praise for these things seems to be justified!

Interesting what you say about not dropping free. Who made your lower? I have been noticing that Billet type lowers (POF, Sun Devil) do not allow PMAG's to drop free.

It's an eagle/Armalite. I'll have to try it in my Colt although I've never had any issues with this lower and other mags.

It's not very tight or anything, but It won't drop when empty yet. I'm sure it'll be fine after a couple of shoots.
