There are also reports of the barrel latches on the ACR breaking. Bushmaster supposedly said that it was related to heat treating, or the lack of it done properly.

Short version?
It was entrusted to a gunmaker that can **** up a cup of coffee. Wrong price point as well.
Promising concept that fell short in actual execution.

I have one on order but I will in all likelihood decline when the call comes. I don't see how it could be superior to the SCAR and with the SCAR available why would I want an ACR?

Exactly. I was waiting for someone to post that. If wanting something different, why would you choose the ACR over the SCAR with all the testing/development that its been through?
I can only imagine how this would have turned out if Magpul had gone with someone like Daniel Defense instead of BM.
We appreciate those who stand by and support us. They are true patriots. We have to question the motives of those who continue to tear us down on this forum. They cannot stop us. Their petty feeble minds are easily exposed. The XCR will gain momentum until it covers the whole earth. There is no other platform like it and it is the best.

Bushmaster happened to the ACR.
I wish BM would dump the quick change barrel idea. Just put the correct barrel on it in the first place. It would bring the weight down significantly and open up the market for complete uppers in different length barrels.

Personally, I was disappointed when a rifle touted as a next generation replacement for the M4 arrived to the market heavier, with an inexplicable barrel profile, in the wrong twist for a military rifle, and at a dramatically higher price. What does it do better?
In my mind, the ACR was competing with the FN SCAR. The ACR needed to beat the SCAR in terms of features, weight and cost. It didn't. Even the SCAR has lost some of its sheen lately, with far more buzz around the 7.62mm version.
Had Bushmaster introduced the ACR with a 1/7" twist lightweight barrel, at the price point we're seeing ACRs offered for now, it would have had a warmer reception. Why they chose to not debut with the folding stock Basic model - the version most evocative of the Masada - is beyond me.
"Give the people what they want - and they'll come."
Knowing that there was a Remington MPD version for the military only reinforced my perception that the BM model was a hobbyist gun.
Unless the Remington entry emerges victorious from the upcoming carbine trials, the ACR will become a historical footnote.
