Why didn't I do this sooner?

A few weeks ago I shot my friend's ARs and fell in love with his rifles. I couldn't sit on my hands for very long, especially once I started reading this forum and learning all about it from you kind folks. With all of your help (known or not), it didn't take long for me to figure out what I'd most likely be very happy with. I wanted something basic but of high quality. Something I can rely on, trust, but also grow with, and something that could grow with me. As the popular saying here goes, I wanted to "shoot the gun" before I decorated it with unnecessary gadgets. So, this is as basic as it gets, but I present you with my take on the AR:

BCM BFH 16" mid-length light weight upper
    VTAC TRX 11" hand guards
    BCM BCG and charge handle
    BCM lower
    Troy front/rear folding battle sights
    Magpul MOE stock
    Magpul MOE grip
    Magpul ASAP receiver plate
    P.I.G. single-point sling
    Magpul magazines

I'd like to thank BCM for an amazing product and great service on the upper, and I'd like to thank Grant from G&R Tactical for a great price and great service for his customized BCM lower. Thanks to companies like that, this project was a breeze.

Tried it out for the first time today, it worked like a champion. Can't wait to get some more practice in. Up next, research on some RDS.

    Comments of course welcome

    Thanks guys

I'm really not a fan of the busy 12-3-6-9 o'clock rails. Yes, they're very useful, yes, they look pretty Rambo, but I would have no use for 2 of them. At most, I am most likely going to mount a small light on the side with one of the modular rails that came with the TRX. I'm all about clean and comfortable and light. I don't have the exact weight of this rifle, but it really does feel like a paperweight.

Plus... I dunno, but the TRX handguards make it look... kinda old school. Not sure why I like them so much, but I do

That's the only downside I see living here... although I don't mind the rain, it gets in the way of a fun time at the range... or training.

    Nice rifle.

    Diesel,

If you don't mind let us know what it cost you to put this together (approx. is good) I would actually like to see more people listing their approx. cost as well. Thanks.

Sure, I can do that I usually never bring up money, it's a sensitive subject for a lot of people. Also, I hate to hear that I overpaid for something But here goes:

    * BCM BFH light weight upper with hand guards, combo deal with BCG and charging handle: $864.00
    * Troy front/rear folding sites: $99.00 and $119.00
    * Total shipped from BCM: $1,095.95

    * G&R tactical assembled BCM lower with Magpul furniture and ASAP, shipped: $456.00

    * Transfer fee for lower, plus tax, ~$80

So a total of $1630 or so.

I could have saved some cash if I didn't go with a BFH light weight barrel, and if I went with a blemished lower, but you live once. Also, a $40 transfer fee and the WA 9.5% sales tax kinda hurts, but what can you do.

That is a terrible set up......its so terrible that you should trade me for one of my Mosin Nagants. I feel so bad I might even trade you 3 of them.lol

That is exactly what I would like to get my AR to some day when I get a little more money. This is your first AR? You made some really good choices right off the bat.

You'd cheat me out of my last scrap of food, wouldn't you?

Yes sir, this is my first AR. But, having some life-long OCD problems, I never make a hasty choice when purchasing anything. Although I did less reading about the AR than I did about my first-ever gun, I still spent many should-have-been-sleeping hours reading about anything I didn't quite understand. In the end, I went with a much recommended company and kept it basic and simple. Additionally, I think some of the choices were just logical, from numerous perspectives. I'm glad you guys approve
