    Ammo Can Stove

    Hello all!

I got bored on my day off today and decided to make a small and portable wood burning stove out of an old 7.62 ammo can!

I made a hinged door that latches shut, a sliding door to adjust airflow, removable and adjustable legs, a grate, and a small chimney. The chimney needs to be replaced with a larger diameter pipe, and will be made in three lengths of pipe that fit together so that the whole stove can be stored inside of itself. If the stove ends up working as I expect it to, I will modify a old USGI pup tent or a canvas tarp so that the chimney can pass through it and heat the tent during these cold winter months. I have not weighed it yet but it should be light enough to put in my pack if I sacrifice a few other nonessential items that I usually carry. Let me know what you think!

That's a great idea. I would like to try that with larger ammo cans like 20 or 40 mm.

    Thumbs up

Pretty slick! My old Scoutmaster was a Korean War veteran, and had us build something almost identical when I was a Boy Scout 30+ years ago.

That's a pretty cool contraption you built.

Ya gotta love the things we come up with during the winter months.
