    Scope for my AR-15?

I want to buy a good 3x scope for my flat-top upper( not sure, because I never owned a powered scope before). It is a lmt upper m4 profile with fsb. I am looking for a good reliable scope that holds zero consistently. I am only looking to spend about 200 maybe a little more. If anyone knows a great buy for a great price, please let me know.

You are going to need more than $200 for anything I would consider good. For optics you should budget approximately as much as you spent on your gun.

Like alaskapopo said, $200 is not nearly enough.

For 3x I would look into either an Aimpoint M4s with a 3x magnifier. This set-up will be in the $1300 range give or take. If not that then possibly a Acog TA33. Cost with good qd mount is around $1100 give or take.

The TA33 is an excellent choice and if you look in the used secton of this forum and the other site you can find them for 650 to 850 depending on the reticle and mount options.

The only variable scope I'd recommend under $200 would be the Weaver V3 1-3x (around $150). It is no frills, no illumination, but they are good little scopes with pretty decent glass for the price. Lightweight too.

But.....you will probably end up upgrading at some point....so if you could stretch a bit more, next up at around $300 would probably be the Burris 1-4x Tac30 available at Midway USA as an exclusive for around $300 - it is getting very good reviews. After that, prices start to head up towards the $650+ range, but you then really start to get a lot of good choices on variable scopes, and also some of the more .mil oriented stuff as Alaskapoppo has indicated.

lethal is asking the right question. It all depends what you want to use it for. If it's just for the range, so you can have fun and punch holes in paper, then you can definitely get a decent scope for under $200. If you're wanting to use the weapon for shooting matches of any kind that you're going to be rough with; e.g. lot of running, bouncing around, need fast sight acquisition, etc... you're probably going to have to do better than the $200 scope. If you want to use your rifle to shoot praire dogs and coyotes at 100-300 yards, you're probably going to want a decent hunting scope that can handle major temperature swings, won't fog, etc... but has good magnification and very stable zero. You'd be most times bipod/bench type shooting. Where as the shooting matches could be more tactical in environment. So again; it all depends what you want to do. It's not that certain sights/scopes are better, it depends on their use. E.g. a $500+ EOTech is an awesome sight. Great for tactical use, but even a $100 3-9x32 scope would be better for shooting prairie dogs or coyotes at 200 yards.

I will look into those options. I always get the best products for my weapons, but this is just to go to the range and have some fun. Im well aware that there are better ways to go such as nightforce, leupold, schmidt and bender, but just looking to have fun at the range out to 100 yrds or little less. great point, you always upgrade after buying mediocre equipment.
