What they want is a just a ban on the magazines, and McCarthey said she wants no grandfather clause or sunset this time. From what she described it would be just like it is in CA. You keep what you have but your not allowed to give/sell them to anyone and if you die they must be destroyed.

McCarthy's latest abortion of a magazine bill is almost identical to the '94 AWB provision with two changes:

1. It would prohibit importation of standard-capacity magazines, even those made before the onset of the ban (i.e. all those cheap AK mags I was buying during the '94-'04 ban)

2. It would prohibit transferring existing pre-ban magazines, though how they'd go about enforcing that is anyone's guess. Would I have to register all my pre-ban standard-capacity magazines?

I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing a video of Rachael Maddow of pMSNBC interview Caroline McCarthey of NY (D). She's the one thats been reintroducing the assault weapon ban every year since '04. She's also the one that told Tucker Carlson on CNN after the Virginia Tech shooting that a barrel shroud is "this thing that goes up". Anyway, she and Maddow didn't say crap about assault weapons other than mentioning the original '94 ban. BTW: my choices also wouldn't change....Glock 9mms and Smith J frames.

Last time I checked none of my AR mags have my name on them, except my work ones which have my badge # on them. How would they know if they really are mine and not just sold to me by a friend?? This is just a hidious idea, impossible to enforce.

So... a couple of points for discussion...

1) what gun or guns would become your primary choice given a limitation of 10 rounds in a mag? (Mine would probably be my G30, one of Gaston's finest offerings, in my view. And my M&P40C. )

And...

2) your thoughts on how the nation's gun owners would respond to being told that they not only could no longer buy hi-cap mags, but that they would have to give them up or become criminals in possession of such mags? (Freaky idea, I know, given the widespread possession of hi cap mags -and considerable financial investment in them for many of us! - amongst millions of American gun owners.)

Simple:

1) Same as always - a 1911

2) Most would respond according to whatever law they passed. Most.
