    Frontline: Top Secret America

Say what you will about PBS but they do quite a bit to inform the American public about what their government is doing.

Case in point, watch this video (it's airing on PBS/Frontline right now) for some things that will send chills down your spine.

This is not meant to be anti-government. I love my country, but the gist is that even those in the government are losing control of oversight and what all can be done, over and above the billions of taxpayer dollars.

Im not a fan of "Fortress America"....

Especially when ATF agents show up at your door with pictures of relatives, military records, lists of guns Ive bought, and who knows what else.

And this is something that separates me from a lot of conservatives/republicans. Bush and the republican Congress gave us the TSA, DHS, (et al) and all the shit shown in the video. They gave us the Patriot Act. Im my eyes 2001-2006 was a much bigger assault on what is America than what Obama has done in the last 2 years.

This isn't anything new. Before you're even born, somebody is watching you.

So long as there's due process, all is well.

Loving your country and loving your government are two completely different things. I definitely do not love my government. DHS and TSA should not exist. Neither should DEA or ATF, as their functions properly belong with the FBI.

Republicans gave us the TSA, DHS, etc, NOT conservatives. There is a difference. Bush governed as a de facto Democrat.

Conservatives are the base of the republican party. Im a libertarian which puts me at odds with both republicans and democrats.

Amen. I feel that every election cycle is "meet the new boss, (almost) the same as the old boss". Our past few administrations have done little more than to compound the errors of their predecessors.

The sooner people realize that the US is terminal and will collapse the in the same way that all great empires have collapsed.

Don't believe me, do your own research. Study the events that led to the collapse of the Roman Republic, the British Empire, colonial Spain, and the USSR. All made the same mistakes that we are currently making.

This was intended to discuss the topic of surveillance/counter-terror efforts at hand, not to discuss the philosophical underpinnings of the Republican party nor the decline of the United States.

This goes beyond ideology. If you watched the documentary you have intelligence officials like General Hayden who admitted that he couldn't claim to be aware of all the surveillance operations that occur within our nation. This is over and above the inability of Congress to oversee these programs and how that money is being spent. This is a real problem that has nothing to do with the DEA/ATF and getting into the security field I'm frankly at a loss as to how to address these problems.

If you haven't watched the documentary provided by the link, please refrain from posting.

If you have watched the documentary, please comment on what you saw and the problems at hand and how you might fix them while still maintaining domestic efforts to secure the US.
