It looks real. It's an Aimpoint Comp M4, not M4s. The M4s has the battery module on the low right of the unit, instead of the module on high right (when looking through the unit). Here are a few ways to tell if it's fake:

    1) If it has a green dot it's definitely fake.
    2) If the objective isn't threaded, it's fake.
    3) If it takes anything other than a AA it's definitely fake.
    4) If the first level of "on" shows a dot, it's fake. (This unit is NV comp so it's going to take a few twists until the dot's come on w/o NV use)
    5) If it has Aimpoint in white (which it doesn't appear to be) it's fake.
    6) If the brightness adjustment knob does NOT have stop in it (as in you can continually turn through all the settings then repeat) then its fake.

The front flip cap is a real aimpoint cap, so that's a good sign. I thought the battery indicator and dot just forward of the adjustment knob was odd, but that's supposed to be there as well on the M4's. Also that is the QRP 2 which is why it looks different than the older QRP mount, which is the correct mount for these. You can also call AP with the serials and they can verify it for sure. However I believe this is a real unit, and if he has good feedback like you say then I wouldn't worry about it.

    Hope this helps.

Wanted to add as well this is solely pertaining to the M4 line. Each other model has it's different fakes, so if you need any other models in question I'd be glad to help out. The majority are the same, but there are some fine differences as well.

Thanks a lot man, that really helped. I just bought it!!! I just wanted to be actually sure before I forked out 525 bucks for thing. You get what you pay for I guess. He claims to be selling because, lately he has only been using long range optics and this unit has just been collecting dust. here is a link that I was looking at before I posted. This is detailed pics of the replica, which by the way is a very good clone in terms of the similarities in looks.

No problem bud. I've been stooped once if you can't tell...haha. Congrats on your purchase. Wow you are right, that clone is very similar. With that one I could tell with the finish on the unit. It has more of a glossier finish where as real one's have like a matte/gray finish to them. If you put yours next to that clone you'd say... wow that's black (regarding the clone). Let us know when you get it and how you like it. I got rid of mine for a T-1 ultimately, but the M4 is no doubt an awesome sight. You can't beat the battery life of these aimpoints.

I will definitely post very detailed pics of the unit when I get it. Prob around monday or tues. On another topic... Does the military (army, marines) use the h-1 or the t-1 or was it really developed for hunters and reduction of weight. I was going to go that direction myself.

Actually what you're buying now is what the military is currently being issued. These are the new CCO M68's (close combat optic). The ones these replaced were the Comp M2's. I don't believe the micro's were developed for the military, as I know they are still being issued the M4's. There are a few things that the T-1's have that need to be improved on before I think they could be used for military purposes. For instance there is no way to incorporate a kill flash, which as you can imagine can hurt our soldiers in the sunny desert. Also there aren't very good ways to protect the glass in terms of lens covers. The best I've seen are the GG&G covers, which are incorporated into the mount which equals an even bigger expense to the military. The micros are a durable lighter alternative to the larger brethren. Now that doesn't mean that they aren't in use by our forces, but as far as standard issue I don't think that was the original intent.

WoW!!. I was watching fox news today and they where talking about using different strategies in Afghanistan. While they were showing action footage, they had a US soldier firing his m4 with a T1 and 3x magnifier behind it. So I guess they are using it to a certain degree.

Don't mean to bring back an old thread but I have a question. Mine clears every line about being real except the turrets are not etched. They are black and I was able to scratch them off. Everything else passes. Do I have a fake?
