There is also the lens test...
Looking straight at the objective it should be red....turn it away some and should be yellow...turn it more, it should be green.
I researched this subject for about 3 weeks before buying mine...its amazing at the number of fakes out there.

Like I mentioned. It passed every test except the turrets are black prints.
Just got off the phone with Aimpoint. Apparently my serial is not a common counterfeit one. The NV settings are on point. The rep told me the markings on the turrets may be really old since newer M4 have laser etch.
I finally received the complete upper that I had ordered about 8 months ago so that I can complete my wife's AR. It will mostly be a home defense gun and I was planning on using one of the Aimpoint sights for it. I have an EoTech that I use on my patrol rifle, but she needs something that she can leave on all the time. I don't want her to have to worry about adjusting it if something goes bump in the night.
I like the Comp M2 but the battery can be hard to come by. The Comp M4s seems perfect, especially with the 8 year battery life and the fact that it uses a AA battery. So my question is this: the Comp M4/M4s is pretty expensive but it has more features and a better battery than the patrol rifle optic; which do you think would be better for her situation. Also, I noticed that some of you had bought used optics. Other than the issue of getting stuck with a fake, I believe that the Aimpoint sights are tough enough to take serious abuse for years and keep on rocking. So if I were to look for a used one, where would you suggest that I look? I know that I could probably find a bunch of ads on e-bay for one, but do you know of a better place to look?

eBay is not off limits, you just have to do your homework and make sure you're buying from a dealer that obviously specializes in Aimpoints/high end optics and has a proven record. I've bought a few Aimpoints from eBay dealers over the years, and they've all been legit.
At the same time, eBay is not nearly the bargain basement is once was... I very frequently see gear going for more than you can find it elsewhere with the barest searching, all the time, these days.
I bought mine here on the forum...I haven't been home yet to see it (truck driver, be home next week)...but I have no doubt that it is legit.
