    Bushnell TRS-25 - my <$90 set-up = approx. 80 rds to failure - WOW

These went on sale at my local Cabela's today for $79.99 so I thought for that price I'd pick one up for use on my lightweight range carbine and/or GSG-5. I checked around to see if the store had anything but couldn't find any risers. Can anyone recommend a suitable riser for an AR and perhaps provide a link? I have the standard front post and DD 1.5 rear and would like a lower 1/3 co-witness but an absolute would work.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

    *Disclaimer - non-serious-use-carbine*

I received my 1" UTG 3-slot riser today that I found on Amazon for $7.45 delivered and mounted my Bushnell on it. Go to Amazon and search "UTG" if interested.

I'd have preferred a slightly higher mount as this gives a true co-witness but I just got it for use on the range and in that capacity it should provide adequate service. I'll have to play with positioning since I'm used to looking through a big ML3.

Once I can access our range and can get some actual use in I'll keep an eye out for loosening, breakage, etc.

I figure good fun for less than a $90 investment. The weight of the carbine as shown with 75-grain TAP-loaded magazine is 7.5 lbs.

If you mean the unit that projects the dot then that's at 5 o'clock. (I'm a layman so please bear with me.)

Is there a label of country of origin?

I know, sounds stupid, but I'm trying to avoid as much made in china as I can. Saw another Bushnell red dot at Sportsman warehouse, and it was made in Korea. I can live with that.
Have Aimpoints on the 5.56 guns, lookin for something to put on the MP15/22, to replace the EoTech

    Thanks,
    Bob

In this instance, the GIF struck you a mighty blow when he whipsered in your ear, "Yeah, getting an optic/mount combo that costs LESS THAN YOUR MUZZLE DEVICE is a capital idea!" and clouted you on the ear with a 2# mill hammer to drive the thought home.

...at which point you lost sight of the concept that actually aiming the thing might be more important than what it does with the preceived recoil, flash and noise.

I honestly hope that that's a dedicated paper-puncher, and nothing else.

    R. Moran - Sorry, it is made in China. If you can get past that though I think it'd be a great addition to your 15-22. I plan to get a mount for my GSG-5 as well to make it even more practical.

JSantoro - I can appreciate your point but I promise it's non-serious use hence the disclaimer. If it should be necessary to utilize it in that manner I will remove the optic.

    Thanks for the info.

As it is right now I have an EoTech on it. Not a big fan, but they are OK and issued.
Alot of guys always ask me, "what am I sellin" which means, what am I giving away, or they need an optic. I would sell the Eo if someone really needed one, and replace it, with something that more closely follows the T1 and M3 on the other guns.
They all seem to be made in china, in which case, I'd go with a Vortex, as they have a good rep.

Right now, I'll wait. I do have an extra T1 and R1 looking for a home though.

    Jim,
Agreed completely, only for a dedicated .22, I wouldn't even put it on a centerfire, range gun, just cause you never know.

If you have an EXTRA T-1 AND R-1, why even bother with something else?

JSantoro: This has been eating me a bit and again I appreciate your point and you obviously speak from a position of expertise. I have to believe, however, that IF exigent circumstances required this carbine to be pressed into action with this sight and IF it were necessary to actually fire the weapon, there is no way that the sight could fail so catastrophically that it would prevent the complete Colt lower and complete DD upper from operating.

I'm talking about bump-in-the-night-there's-no-other-option, not actually taking it to work as a patrol carbine, etc. If one is to spend most of their time making sure they're able to utilize their iron sights appropriately, then the red dot is just frosting and IF it's needed and IF it fails, drop and move along. I'm not in any way saying or implying that it's just as good as anything, the sight and the mount are Chinese junk, I understand that and bought them with that understanding. I like the fact that it's kind of like the Aimpoint Micros, I can at least get a feel for the concept and then decide if it warrants the remaining 7/8 expense I'd need to fork out for one or if I'll just stick with my ML3. I'm also sure I could sell it to someone and get at least 80% of my money back and that's rent I'm willing to pay to play.

Again, I appreciate your point and the position from which it comes, I just disagree slightly with the perception that potential failure of a cheap sight will result in utter chaos given its INTENDED purpose.
