So cover up his statue because of things that happened long after he died?

That is liberalism at its best, isn't it?

There is a big furor going on right now about some Republican Congressman who was talking about abortion and the definition of a human being because he said that Obama as a black man should understand that considering fetuses property rather than humans is wrong. i.e., blacks used to be considered property instead of human. Seemed like a good point to me. Prior to the emancipation proclamation blacks were property and did not enjoy the protections of the bill of rights, such as the right not to be deprived of their LIFE without due process of law. Presently fetuses are considered property and can be deprived of their life without due process of law. Regardless of where someone stands on the abortion debate, the parallel is striking.

But as always, speaking the truth gets the PC crowd all hot and bothered.

A rep for the SC chapter said the statue was covered to prevent anyone from "being offended."

After the shitstorm started someone else stated that the covering was to be for hanging a sign/seal/graphic or something. Of course, such said sign was conveniently "forgotten."

This is no secret, the statue is covered evey year when the SC NAACP protests against the flying of the confederate flag at the state capitol.

It's not like the attitudes of more strident blacks about the Founding Fathers is any secret.

    So

The "Stars and Bars" is still oppressing them they say. LOL, if it wasn't that it would be something else. Any whiny ass liberal asshat will always find a reason to blame someone else for their own shortcomings. Replace G.W. statue with Robert E. Lee and then see a real shitstorm. PS I am a Yankee, not a Reb, but I do support my fellow law abiding southern brethren.

    Thumbs down

I'm Black. Those people offend me. George Washington - like most of us - was truly a "man of his time" in that we all hold beliefs that will be viewed as archaic at some point in the future. That said, he ideals and leadership he possessed helped forge this nation to potentially become the light of the world. To deny this is interminably shortsighted.

Those simple-minded bastards can get the F out of this nation if they cannot respect what these men created. They can go to Hell as far as I'm concerned and they can take their apologists with them.

I don't like that aspect of our Founding Fathers nor their views of the Native tribes, either. However, it's no different than jews who are offended by anything remotely associated with Germany. It's equally silly but very prevalent with those whose emotions are stronger than their ability to reason, apparently.

As for slavery ending in 1865; not really. A citizen (as opposed to a subject) has the right to vote. Therefore, it can be argued that in 1968 blacks were truly allowed the opportunity to succeed in the USA.

    .

Can you imagine the storm that would have followed if some group had a meeting in front of an MLK Statue and covered it up.

I could here the arguments, ".....but that's different...covering MLK up is being racists...!!!!"

Well, let's place things in perspective shall we? Do you think Jews would find a Nazi flag offensive? Or how about a survivor of the Bataan Death march? Do you think they might find a "land of the rising Sun" flag offensive?

    C'mon, man.

It would certainly be "different", I'll readily admit that. Knowing his INTENT (liberation of his people) I'd not understand covering his statue. You see I look beyond his/your human shortcomings but I look very closely (and choose to hold you/me accountable) for your Soul intent. Was he perfect? Are you? Am I? Heavens no!! Which is why I am offended that they would choose to cover his statue as I value the Nation over Self and w/o persons such as Paine, Jefferson, Washington, etc., where would we be? I'll tell you. 200 + years advanced into this "NWO" which is merely euphemism for recapturing us colonialists from the Old World Order.

People (all sides) need to re-evaluate selves, have EMPATHY for others and ASSIST where you can as we are ONE NATION.

    ==============================

I'd never cover MLK's statue, if for nothing else, just a basic respect for a man. A basic respect that GW evidently was not shown. Although, I think MLK was more than just "a man".

With my Post, I was trying to just show that the "do unto others as..." that you were referring to in your last sentence is often ignored to make a selfish "statement" or to take some other prideful "jab" that just keeps picking the scab off the "wound" and keeps it from healing.

    But maybe it's just me...
