The statue is over looking all the black attendants as if he's their master. If that's not offensive, I don't know what is.

It's not offensive, and no you don't seem to know what is. I guess they better turn in all their money with old Presidents on it so they aren't offended.

NAACP is stuck on their idea that the founders of the USA were some racist old white men, so they like to denigrate the founders and the Constitution that they wrote at every opportunity.

Any person versed in basic U.S. History knows that the 13th Amendment freed the slaves, not the Emancipation Proclamation.

Lincoln had NO power to free slaves not under his control (i.e. The South). The EP was more symbolic than material.

I agree. Lincoln was a racist and the war was not fought for slavery like many often believe. Boxing in a statue of our first president so that "people are not offended by it's presence" is disrespectful and ignorant. I also believe that the participants lack the basic knowledge and understanding of U.S. history that you mentioned or they wouldn't have gone to such childish measures.

The other side of the argument it this: I might not agree with what you say, but I will fight for your right to say it. They have a right to assemble in peace, they have a right to say what they want to say as long as it does not interfere with the rights of others.

Was there a need to cover up the statue? IMHO, no. But hey, this is America and we are afforded these freedoms and choices. Just food for thought...

Now, if they would have damaged it, or rendered it beyond repair? Then someone needs to go to jail and fork up some $$$ for damages and repair. Someone just need remove the wood cover and all is back to normal.

    Idiots

All this actually proves is that Blacks still to this day feel like us Whites have control. Proves to me that they are weak, narrow minded, and mentally incapable of moving past an issue long since abolished. They are oppressing themselves because they aren't progressing as a race. **** them, leave them behind and move on. We as a nation have more important shit on our plates besides worrying about some black groups pushing this tired ass agenda of inequality.

Sadly, from my experience with my own family and a significant majority of other black people that I know and have come into contact with; I agree.

It's possible that whoever set up the event put that there as a better backdrop for the speaker for both the crowd and television—look at the podium placement and the TV-friendly covering on the box. At least it seems like less of a stretch than covering it over some idea that Washington was racist and has no place at an NAACP event.
