Kershaw Leek is one of my favorites. Around 40 bucks and easy to keep sharp. Comes in an array of colors as well. Mine is all black.

The kershaw blur is a slammin' blade at a righteous price. I have 2 and they've served their purpose quite nicely.

I've carried a plain edged Spyderco Endura Wave for about 5 years and it's been a great knife. Stays sharp, carrys well and the wave feature is a must for any future knife I buy. There are several of good knives in your price range, I don't think you could go wrong with any of the previous suggestions.
I carried a Cold-Steel Ti-Lite for a year. Loved that knife.
I like Kershaw knives and have carried two that I like. They are both in the $40-50 range and have been great knives. Below are the links:

Note: you can find them cheaper than the prices listed in the links above.
I have been carrying a Gerber FAST draw knife for a few years. It is the partially serrated type. I use it multiple times every day. I have nothing against other knives, but I find that this is the easiest one handed operation knife on the market (CKRT does make a few that are similar). With the lock being a slide on the side, I never have to put my fingers in the path of the blade to close the knife (nor depress other buttons / locks /etc...). Plus I like the spring assist opening. It is also rather inexpensive at around $45. (Lost first one on job site, lost second one in washing machine and found it a year later, have had third one for a several years now.)
Spyderco Delica with a wave. I like the plain edge.
+1 on the Kershaw blades. Tough as nails and stays sharp. They use good steel and it shows over time.
I like serrations b/c you can use the blade for more applications and sometimes it keeps the edge sharper. Being able to cut objects against the serrations vs. the blade.
I have a Kershaw Salvo serrated that I carry and use at work. Mostly to open boxes and cardboard usually messes up blades bad. Not this edge.
