    Benchmade and Spyderco

I have several Kershaw knives, but they have on major flaw. Blade steel. They have brilliant designs, but put shitty steel in most of them.

Both Benchmade and Spyderco produce a better knife at that price point. The Benchmade Griptillian is huge. They have a smaller size that is perfect for pocket carry. I also like their 530 I carry that every day. It is very slim with enough length to do most everything I need. Both of those are avalible in CPM 154 steel. Its a well rounded stainless steel. Both of these knives come with Benchmade's Axis lock. One of the better locks I have used.

Next I would look at the Spyderco Endura. Good steel super light weight an very few moving parts.

Either of these would make a great daily carry. I know I have carried them all.

Stay away from serrations. They cut very well, but are a pain in the ass to sharpen once dull. More than anything they take up valuable space on the edge.

This seems like a good price for a Kershaw knife.

    I just ordered one.

    Retail price: $64.95
    Our price: $24.99

    +1 on the SOG Trident.

I didnt have the tanto but that thing is a beast. Ive been carrying the non serrated version for over 3 years and its still slicing and dicing. And that includes cutting open hundreds of can food cans. (not recommended by any means but i got a new one to carry so the old one gets all the brute force tasks)

im not a big fan of tanto blades. in everyday carry i never saw the point. if you're gonna do any type of bushcraft or precision work i like to be able to choke up on a drop point not a tanto. i own my fair share of knives and none are tanto.

although like previous stated my edc is a crkt m21, which is a liner lock. my edc is based around personal defense not everyday activity, which it can perform if needed, i carry a multi tool for that. if your all around go for a lockback model. second most sturdy behind a full tang. im a big fan of benchmade, crkt, and sog. i think gerber has amazing multi tools but there blades are kinda showy for me. i like no frills knives.

CRKT and Kershaw make pretty slick designs, but they fail in the execution. CRKT spends a lot in R&D, and makes price point by scrimping on materials. AUS8 is shit, plain and simple. Kershaw has some nice knives, but you wont find any of them in the price range you are looking at. The majority of them are sold under the Zero Tolerance label.

In the range you have suggested, Spyderco and Benchmade are your only real, quality choices. The standbys, the Endura and Griptillian, are better knives than anything CRKT produces, and the vast majority of Kershaw's offerings.

There are a lot! You really need to see how they feel and and how you would wear for edc.

A few I have and like, Sog Trident and Aegis, Kershaw Leek ( I have 3), Benchmade 530-One of my favorite-only weighs 1.8 oz but now you are getting into the $90+ range.

I have a couple custom folders for EDC, that are very functional, but also very expensive and I have them just because I appreciate artistry and fine craftsmanship.

One of the criteria that I personally like for an EDC knife is the "notch" that allows you to cut seatbelts/clothes with without having to open the knife in an emergency situation. Under stress, we all know that fine motor skills deteriorate, so I would much rather have this option than to run the risk of opening the blade and accidentally cutting/stabbing myself (or someone else) if that emergency situation arises.

This is why I have been eyeing the Trident for so long since I can't find any other design with that feature for less than $100...

    That feature is honestly useless.

I don't remember the story word for word, or all the details, (I heard it at a carbine class I attended) but you should tell that to the officer who accidentally stabbed a gunshot wound victim he was trying to aid when cutting the shirt off of the victim with his open folder knife. He was under stress and fine motor skills evaded him....

Maybe you should support your claim....

Just to throw in my .02, I have been carrying a SOG Trident for about 6 months and love it. I've never found myself wanting a larger blade, and the handle is lightweight so you don't walk lopsided at the end of the day.
