    "Kino" Question

I have been investigating the "Kino" SBR confiuration and have a couple of questions. I have been using the Bravo Company link as a reference:
    http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-1...m4-12%20kd.htm

Why is this considered an optimal setup? Why have a carbine length gas system with a gas block and an FSP. Why not just have a mid-length gas system and just an FSP with no extra gas block?

I apologize if these are remedial questions. I was just thinking about building a "kino", but BCM is out of them right now. I was talking to another manufacturer about it and they suggested just cutting down a mid-length 16" upper to 12.5". Will this work and be reliable?

    Thanks for your input!

As far as I know, the intention of the Kino is to let you get your grip farther out for driving your rifle.

It also extends your sight radius and allows for more rail space.

This is not at all the same as cutting a 16" mid length down to size. I dont think a mid lenght gas system on a 12.5" barrel has the dwell time necessary to run reliably.
When asked a few days later by his superior what he was going to do once he was out of the plane without a parachute, Frank MacAlyster replied…

"One problem at a time sarge, one problem at a time..."

    Exactly what I was thinking.

Oh, were you thinking of spelling the word 'length' wrong too?

The carbine-length gas system is well suited for a 12.5" barrel with regards to dwell time & gas pressures, argueably moreso than on a 14.5" barrel.

    A 12.5" K-Config SBR is my only remaining AR15, it's just a great all-around GP rifle.

Kino, have you played with 12.5 middies? I'm tempted to try one. Also, if I may suggest, you guys should have a run of 16" Intermediate lightweights hammered so I don't have to buy a complete KAC upper to get something similar.

With all due respect, a longer grip is on my 11.5 with 10" rail and a longer sight radius would be with a 12.5, 11" rail with a fold down sight. I understood the benefit of the Kino is you have the traditional sight tower and not a fold down BUIS with slightly longer rail length.

It's just another variation in the world of AR.

    My lousy rifle...

The stock rattles, the upper & lower fit is sloppy, the feed ramps don't match, and the trigger leaves a lot to be desired, but it keeps putting rounds where I want them at the ranges I need to... Guess I'll keep it for now.
