I've had a Camp Tramp and Howling Rat for what seems like several years now. Both are very good blades for the money. The CT has seen the most use, primarily batoning thru firewood. No failures of any sort. The handles are very comfortable as well. Not sure what they are using for steel nowadays, but I think mine are SR-101 which, IIRC, is a variation of 52100.

I had one one and it was great steel but it was a 5" and it was kind of an awkward size. I wish I'd gone for like a 3-4" utility knife. I gave up on "choppers" and just got a lightweight GB hatchet and a 3.5' Busse to use as a utility knife. That combo takes care of everything I've needed to do and is a pretty easy to use.

    Swamp rat

These guys did a special run for us when my field squadron deployed to Astan in 05, these are "rock" solid knives. They liked the idea I pitched and produced the knife.
I don't know if they ever did it again?

Thats what Ive found, a smaller bush-oriented knife handles quite well with a little bit of know how. The RMD is about 5" and is the biggest I will carry, but the rodent solution is 3.5" and will suit me quite well.

The RMD will be for batoning and chopping though. I ordered an AZWELKE kydex sheath, he seems to do pretty good work.

    Relentless,

good to see yours have been so reliable, puts my mind at ease!

    Mildot,

    which sheath is that?

I own Busse's, Swamp Rats and Scrapyard knives. They are all from the Busse "family".

I think the Ratmandu is a great "overall" blade, that should be very handy.

If you do not get the Rodent Solution, you might want to take a look at the RAT3 from ESEE knives. I have three of them, so you could say I'm sort of fond of the breed. I have one of the old D2 versions, which is my fave.

Good luck, and remember to post some pics!

I've got a Rat Mastiff with a 9" blade and a newer version of the Howling Rat, I believe it's the HRLM.

They are great, super durable blades but because of the way they are sold they are hard to get.

I actually bought and returned an Esee RC4 in the same week. I wanted to love it, but not being able to fit all 4 fingers on the grip got to me.

I recently picked up a matching HRLM and a Ratmandu. I really like the knives but my time has been very limited with them. I did chop through a 2x4 for the hell of it with the RMD. I'd definitely suggest picking them up.
