Yea, I thought that was pretty crazy. I understand the need for SWAT teams, but to have them strolling around the park and subway stations with M4s is a bit much. I fail to see the need for that.

European police forces seem to love showing off SMGs and assault rifles to the public. I've always wondered why.
    Principles matter.

I always thought it was to remind the populace that they were subjects, not free citizens.

SMG's are viewed differently over there, and they aren't walking around in full body armor, helmets, and face masks.

The point here is that Bloomberg is cool with his LEO's walking around in public like that yet goes out of his way across the country trying to get gun laws instituted to keep us from owning firearms.

They have people pulling over watch with sniper rifles at tennis games yet he won't allow ordinary citizens to CCW, and has his officers wanding people with hand held metal detectors on the sidewalk checking for guns. Im not sure why anyone would want to live in a city where officers in masks, body armor, and slinging M4's is a regular occurrence yet they don't think I have any right to self defense. Im not even sure how those searches are legal since these people were on a public sidewalk.

Reminds me of that pic with Ray Nagan and his police chief having fun with the M4's they got for their LEO's yet went around confiscating people's guns.

To make the people think you are "doing something"

It is all for show and warm and fuzzies.

SMGs are considered proper and gentlemanly weapons of war, unlike barbaric shotguns.

I love NYC, I can't stand Bloomburg... The guy is an asshat!

I remember going to Grand Central Station less than a year after 9/11 for a school project [Architecture School]... our dumb ass teacher asked us to sketch some details of the stone work... Holy shit was that "fun" Its awesome trying to explain what you are doing with a camera, sketchpad and a measuring tape to 3 big bad assholes with M4's... fun fun fun...

That was then, and last time I was in Grand Central, about 4 months ago there was still a few guys with armor and M4's, same thing in the Port Authority Bus Terminal, this time though they stat in the corners and out of the way.

Not sure how I feel about it, I did not feel uncomfortable, so I dont know if I care.

NYC gun laws are ass backwards and Blomburg over reaches his bounds left and right, that is the typical liberal asshat mentality, everyone must do as he says, not just the city of retards that elected him, but even those who would not vote for him under any condition.

I cant wait to see what he does when the SAF wins the law suit against his dumb ass CCW laws. He just might shit a brick.
..It was you to me who taught
In Jersey anythings' legal, as long as you don't get caught.

You guys see that National Geographic show on the anti-terror efforts NYC has put in place? This isn't a slight against the LEO's there but Bloomberg and Co. has them running around with M4's and balaclava's as routine patrols.
The NYPD ESU was doing this, what they called hercules patrols post 9-11. I had thought those types of patrols have since ended.

Again, the problem with all gun laws is that they only effect law abiding citizens. Joe Shit the rag man is still buying stolen guns. Joe doesn't give two shits about a background check.

The issue needs to be mental health care. With the shooting in question, I'm sure there were so many failures on the part of the health care system on the part of the shooter. Had his mental health been squared away, we never would have gotten here.

People always want to change the equation at the end. As bad as you want 2 + 2 to equal 5, it will never happen. This incident, the shooting that started all of this, isn't the result of a mentally ill person buying a gun or failing a background check. It is the failure to properly care for the mentally ill person in the first place.
