"Winchester Military-Grade Buckshot"

Looking for a cost-effective buy on 12 ga 00 buckshot in quantity, I keep running across "Winchester Military-Grade Buckshot." I have noted a couple of reviews indicating the ammo was old or shot REALLY dirty. Anybody have experience with this ammo?

Maybe i'm missing the deals but from the prices i've seen "cost effective" and that particular load do not go together. I usually see that stuff for over $4 per box of 5. Keep looking, you should be able to find quality stuff for $3 or less.

I haven't personally shot any but I have heard it patterns horribly.

Winchester GI buck and cost effective do not go together. It patterns horribly, is cheaply put together with cheap components, and the only reason it costs more than better loads is that the dealer is hoping you are willing to pay more because of the military label.

"Military Grade" shotgun ammo for the most part is a cheap OLD BS SPECIFICATION.

The shotgun ammo MIL SPEC I believe is older than the one for M-855 and probably the last update for M-193. There is a lot better defensive ammo on the market then that stuff.

At least the shells are subdued, I guess they did get that part right'ish.

There is a thread on either Arfcom or one of the big shotgun forums where a guy cut open Winchester "military" buckshot and Winchester Super X buck. Long story short, exact same inside, different colored hull. Oh, and the "military" round was a dollar more per box.

Avoid.

If the "military" stuff is the same as Super-X, then it's not plated, nor buffered very effectively. Expect wide patterns. It does go bang every time and has always fed well for me in semis.

If you get a deal on it, use it for training. Otherwise, keep shopping.

Those Rio shells aren't bad for cheap buckshot.

A few years ago I came across a quantity of the stuff for about $.40/round ($2 per box IOW) and decided to buy it. At that price it isn't bad. Most of the prices I've seen for it lately are a lot higher, in the range you quoted. It sells primarily on "mil-spec."

It does pattern pretty badly. So badly in fact that getting half the pellets in the black of a B-21 beyond 20 yards is unlikely, this was in a Mod. choked weapon.

Vastly better stuff is available at the same price.
