I didn't ask my original question very clearly.
Though the discussion has tended towards inexpensive range ammo, and has been helpful, my original interest was actually cost-effective defensive ammo to buy a quantity of to keep on hand "just in case." Not looking for cheap stuff, just a good value on quality stuff.

Fed Tactical w/ FliteControl 00. I use the reduced load for training and the full power stuff for home load. 2 3/4" only.
I've had decent patterns out of some odd stuff though. The Estate stuff patterns well enough for cheap ammo (cheap when I bought it anyway, haven't bought it in a while) and the Remington green box 00 patterns ok too for some reason. I recommend trying several different loads through your weapon and see what it likes. You might get lucky and find something cheap patterns well enough for your liking.
