I never understood the appeal of "cheap" AR's.

Assuming you're going to spend lots of time shooting the thing, it will be the ammo costs that will really start to eat into your wallet.

If it were my money, I'd simply have an AR fund set aside that I added money into periodically. I would keep adding money into it until I could afford something that didn't come with question marks surrounding it. If you can afford a 700 dollar rifle, spending a few extra months saving an extra 100 or 200 shouldn't put you out on the street.

    DSA bad experience.

I bought a DSA M4 upper for a friend last year. The area in the rear where the take down pin goes through was too fat to fit in any of my lowers and the charging handle was the wrong size,it would not fit into the upper receiver.I immediately sent it back for a refund. And i'm still pissed to this day because they did not refund the shipping cost from when they shipped it to me and me shipping it back.I was out like $30 shipping costs for thier defective junk!!

A friend of mine loaned me a DSA FAL and it was a total piece of shit. 6" groups at 100 yards, and a safety with 2 extra stops in it that tended to confuse me and make me think the safety was off when it was not. And that was the $2300 para model. No thanks.

I've owned 5, and worked on probably 10 others, helping out friends with builds etc. At no point have I ever experienced anything close to what you describe.

Two extra stops? I'm not sure what you're shooting, but there are only 3 stops at most, including the safety on position and only the Stg models might have the FA stop, which would require you to really go out of your way to get there. You're friend loaned you a gun and said "what a POS?" or he liked it and you didn't?

Any manufacturer of any gun can put out a bad gun, bad barrel etc., but they've always stood behind their product and if I were your friend I'd have him send it back. They stand behind their product.

There are no extra stops on a Fal selector. You do have to make sure you push the selector all the way from Safe to Fire and if it has an original lower and full auto selector, it will let you push it past the Semi position to the useless full auto position. All you have to do to fix that is get the semi selector.

If you want better groups, train and use better ammo. You should be able to cut that 6" group in half. This makes the Fal a total POS? Then so is the AK

I think it's because not everyone who thinks about buying an AR is "serious" (whether as a competitor, LE, military, or what) and a lot of people who own and like guns think $500 is expensive and $700 is the edge of their budget. These would be the people buying the discount model bolt actions from Remington, Savage and Mossberg, but probably buying a deer tag every year too. I'm not one of those people, but I'm well aware that they are abundant. And most of those people buy ammo one or two boxes at a time, so it will be a lot of years before the ammo cost overrides the rifle cost.

Again, I'm not one of these people and am 100% conscious that M4C.net is not at all focused on such people, but I do think it explains why $700 ARs of fair to middling quality are abundant and keep being introduced, even though an AR meeting most of the TDP can be had for very little more (e.g. an $850 Spike's Tactical). For those of us who buy ammo by the case on a regular basis, the extra few hundred for a top quality rifle is peanuts.

Give me a break. I don't need advice from you on how to shoot good groups. I reported on a piece of shit gun. Apparently unable to understand, that, you assume it must be the shooter who is a piece of shit. It is better not to project your own self image or limitations onto others.
